Sold by The Classic Motor Hub of Bibury in October 2022. Seller's description below.
    www.classicmotorhub.com/showroom/1964-jaguar-e-type-fhc-series-1-3-8/

Offered for sale at The Classic Motor Hub, this beautiful E Type FHC was built on 16 January 1964 and is therefore a late example of the 3.8 litre Series 1. Chassis number 861472 was a UK market right hand drive FHC fitted with engine number RA5016-9 and finished in Opalescent Gunmetal with Dark Blue interior. It was given Coventry registration number 7248WK and dispatched via Jaguar's export division to its first owner, Captain E A Ramsey. From the Heritage Certificate, Captain Ramsey was, at that time, serving in Aden with the Royal Scots Greys, but home was the Berwickshire military town of Coldstream. The E Type stayed with him until14 November 1966, when it made the long trip to its second owner, R A Cridland of East Budleigh in Devon

It would stay in South West England for a number of years, passing then to D F Mannell of Kingsbridge, later to M S Fortnam of Drewsteighton and finally to Mr Dawney of Exeter in 1979. A significant amount of work was undertaken in 2011, all fully documented in the extensive history file. The gearbox was rebuilt, the engine rebuilt with Mahle pistons, an alternator conversion was carried out, a high torque stater motor fitted, and the cooling system and brakes uprated. The pristine interior retrimmed in Black has three point static belts and the Motorola radio has been converted to FM. It runs on Michelin tyres and pleasing details include the period Triplex sticker on the windscreen and December 1964 tax disc. This is a matching numbers example finished in its original exterior colour.

I was delighted to buy my father's old car back in September 2022, after a tip off from a friend who saw his name mentioned in the advertisement.

I went to see it at the Classic Motor Hub. From a young age I have always thought that Series 1 E-Types are the most beautiful of cars, seeing and driving it lived up to my expectations, the engine was good, I liked the gun-metal grey colour, and the refurbishment done to a high standard.  Also, my father’s comments in his letter to Mr Field below, that he wished he had kept one of his old cars, spurred me on.

I decided to buy it and paid £165,000.

My father wrote to Mr Field on 30th November 2010:

“At the end of 1963 I had returned from overseas service and was posted to Germany (not for the first time) in early 1964. I had an E-Type hard-top before this one (it was sold) and one did not pay any tax if one bought a car to take overseas and kept it there for at least a year – so I obviously decided to trade in the old one for the car you now have. I had it in Fallingbostel, Germany….

It was great driving in Germany, and indeed elsewhere, in those days. The Autobahns were relatively clear and there were not the speed/traffic restrictions that there are nowadays!

I worked my way up with Jaguars – starting with XK120 and then XK140, XK150, and E-Type. I had a valuable friend at Jaguars who was Lofty England; he was their Service/Racing Manager and gave fantastic service to those who were in direct contact with him.

I wish I had kept one or two of those old cars, but unfortunately one was always ‘trading in’ for the next car.”
