Description:
This very early production E-Type race car is one of the first 1000 constructed. Its early history is presently unconfirmed. It does have known, documented, racing history from the early 1980’s to the present in the U.S. The car was last raced in 2004.

The E-Type is powered by a correct, 1962, 3.8 litre, racing engine. The gearbox is the later full synchro box. It has had “semi-lightweight” vents added to the steel bodywork, but otherwise remains remarkably unmolested. It still has its full interior, dash, operational turn signals, heater, etc. The wheels are 15 X 7 inch with 60 series Hoosier tires.

Because of its early production number, this car qualifies to run with the “medium bore” sports cars. As such it is a front runner for all of these type of grids.

A Personal Export delivery car to the United States first registered 179WK by Jaguar Cars with Coventry Borough Council in 1961. Imported into the United Kingdom from California, the original registration number was recovered and reissued by the DVLA in August 2005. After returning to the UK it was prepared to race in FIA Period E Regulations specification by CKL Developments of Charlwood. it remains left hand drive and is fitted with three SU carburettors and wire wheels. The interior is fitted with a roll cage, racing seats, trimmed with leather upholstery and fitted with a wooden steering wheel.

After returning to the UK it competed regularly in Europe including the Le Mans Classic, Tour Espana, Goodwood Members Meeting Moss Trophy and the Scottish Malts Reliability Test. In 2014 it was issued with new HTP Papers and sold later that year by Hall and Hall of Bourne, specialists in the preparation and restoration of historic racing cars. The new owners competes regularly with the car. It was at the Monza Historic Sixties Endurance Race in July 2015 and the Goodwood Revival Festival in September 2016.

Chassis 875949 is a genuine 1961 E-Type LHD ‘flat floor’ Roadster, and a regular

competitor at the Goodwood Revival and Goodwood Members’ Meeting. This early

E-Type features outside bonnet locks, and retains the original 1961 factory registration.

With a current FIA Technical Passport valid through December 2025, 179 WK is eligible

for all of the most prestigious historic GT racing events.

Competitive life

After registration by Jaguar in the UK as 179 WK, chassis 875949 was exported to the US

from Henlys of London for its first owner, Mrs. L. Hope. The car was converted to racing

specification in the USA in the late 60's/early 70’s for the then owner Mack Besser, who

actively campaigned the car in competition up until the early 90’s.

The car’s history file still retains the original Die-Hard Racers and Vintage Sports Car

Drivers logbooks kept by Besser, detailing the events he competed in with the car. In

2005 the car returned to the UK via CKL Developments for the then owner Richard Wills.

During his ownership the car most notably competed in Tour d’Espania ’05 and then

later in ’08 raced at Le Mans with Rowan Atkinson as one of the two drivers at the

wheel.

In 2010 the car was owned by Simon Tate, who had Wolfe Racing maintain and prepare

the car for his competition use up until 2014, when it was acquired by Chris Milner.

During the winter of 2015, Milner commissioned a full rebuild and race prep
