€90,000 - €120,000
Chassis no. 876676
Engine no. R3987-9
• Original left-hand drive roadster
• Engine overhauled in 2010
• Offered from long-term ownership
• Registered in Germany
An original left-hand drive roadster, this early E-Type was acquired by the current owner in 1998. It was his beloved 'daily summer classic car', which was kept garaged with the ignition key permanently inserted and ready to start at any time - just as his friend and hero Steve McQueen used to do.

The E-Type has participated in several historic rallies such as the Trentino Classic, Silvretta Classic, etc. Unfortunately the engine was damaged in 2009 at this rally, necessitating a rebuild (see below). The car also took part in all editions of the Chronoswiss Classic Rallye with several movie stars (see photograph on file of actress Jutta Speidel with her mother in 2009).

This car was originally black with grey interior but was refinished some time ago in the current attractive combination of light blue metallic paintwork with dark blue leather interior. The soft-top is dark blue and in impeccable condition. We are advised that the engine was overhauled in 2010 with a replacement cylinder head and is in running condition (the block is original). There are some cosmetic blemishes on the body that may require attention in furture; the interior is nicely preserved; the gearbox shifts well; although the electrics would benefit from some work. Described as looking solid throughout, the car has recently been fettled into running order having stood for a while and is now reported to drive and shift well. A charming example that is in overall presentable condition. Notable features include upgraded brakes and a stainless-steel exhaust system. Registered in Germany.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
