Private Party Or Dealer: Dealer

This 1962 Jaguar XKE Series I roadster is a non-running project that is finished in red over blue vinyl and is powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Additional features include a blue convertible top, chrome wire wheels, and a Pioneer AM/FM radio. The selling dealer acquired the car in September 2020 and states that it has been in California since new and was placed into storage in 1984. This Series I XKE is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, a tool kit, manufacturer’s literature, hand-written maintenance logs, historical documents, black California license plates, and a clean California title.

Originally Opalescent Silver Blue, the car was reportedly repainted red in 1971. Exterior features include a blue convertible top, chrome bumpers and trim, hood louvers, and central exhaust outlets. Close-up photos of paint imperfections.

Chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels wear radial tires that are in need of replacement. The car rides on independent front and rear suspension, and braking is provided by four-wheel discs, with the rears inboard. There is pitting on the chrome wheels.

The cockpit features blue vinyl seats along with a matching dashboard pad, door panels and carpets. Amenities include a heater/defroster, aluminum trim, wind wings, Jaguar-branded rubber floor mats, and a Pioneer AM/FM radio. The selling dealer states that the seat covers and dash pad were reupholstered during previous ownership. There is a tear in the driver-side footwell carpet.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel sits ahead of a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with an inset analog clock. Gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level are arrayed across the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 28k miles and is believed to have rolled over. Total mileage is unknown.

The 3.8-liter inline-six is fed by triple SU carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque. The selling dealer states that the starter has been rebuilt and that the engine will crank but does not run.

The engine block stamping R4468-9 matches the engine number listed on the chassis plate and Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate shows the factory colors, drive train numbers, and the build date. The data tag lists car as #876873 and the car is titled in California under #J62876873. Black California license plates, hand-written maintenance logs, historical documents, a tool kit, and manufacturer’s literature are included in the sale.
