This 1963 Jaguar XKE is a Series I roadster that was built on September 11, 1962, and was acquired by the current owner in 2014. The car is finished in Opalescent Maroon over a beige leather interior, and power is provided by a numbers-matching 3.8-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a Sand soft top, 15” chrome wire wheels, triple SU carburetors, a stainless exhaust system, bucket seats, and a Motorola radio. Work carried out in anticipation of the sale consisted of changing the oil, rebuilding the front suspension, and replacing the exhaust system, radiator expansion tank, and belt tensioner and bracket. This Series I Roadster is now offered on dealer consignment with partial service records, an operating manual, a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, and a clean Oregon title.
The car wears an older respray in its original Opalescent Maroon and the right floor panel has been replaced. Equipment includes a Sand soft top, split chrome bumpers, glass headlight covers, and dual central exhaust outlets. License plate mounting holes are present in the front bumper.
Chrome 15” wire wheels feature winged knockoffs and wear Avon Radial Steel tires. Disc brakes are mounted outboard up from and inboard at the rear. The front suspension was overhauled in anticipation of the sale.
The cabin is trimmed in beige leather with matching door panels, carpets, and a black dash pad. Equipment includes shell-backed bucket seats, textured aluminum trim, rubber floor mats, and a Motorola radio.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instruments including a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 5,500-rpm redline, and auxiliary gauges. Gauges for water temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are mounted in the center of the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 71k miles, and the total mileage is unknown.
The numbers-matching 3.8L twin-cam inline-six features triple SU carburetors and was rated at 265 horsepower with 260 lb-ft of torque when new. Service in anticipation of the sale consisted of changing the oil and replacing the radiator expansion tank, belt tensioner and bracket, and the oil pan and front crank seals. Compression test results are provided in the gallery below.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The exhaust system was recently replaced, and additional photos of the underside are provided in the image gallery.
The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate lists a build date of September 11, 1962, along with the factory colors and the chassis, body, engine, and gearbox numbers.
