On eBay, 2/2003. Race car. Ad reads:
"This early roadster has been ground up restored from 1981 to 1984. The goal of the rebuild was creating a street car and also the possibillity to vintage racing. This car is certified for vintage events. The removable roll bar can be easy installed in 10 minutes. Only driven 10k miles after the work and then inside stored. Very desirable early E-type with 3.8 litre engine, triple carburetors, aluminum dash trim and covered headlights. To many, the early XKE's were the purest and best performing examples.
Records show that this car was completely restored between 1980-1983 at a low mileage of 44,581 and finished in classic British Racing Green with biscuit interio.
The restoration included a complete drive train rebuilding including engine, the addition of correct Spax front and rear shocks, heavy-duty anti-sway bars, a fully synchronized transmission. The differential was rebuilt with 3.77 to 1 ratio and the chrome was replated. A high quality interior was installed.
The generator has been updated to an alternator, allowing the use of a stronger cooling fan for better engine cooling.
Over the course of the next 20 years, the car was driven sparingly, just 11,484 miles, and stored properly in a heated facility. We have known this car for the past 10 years and acquired it early 2003.
The car has been fully serviced and refurbished by our shop including the following work and parts:
4 new chrome wire wheels with new modern tires, three carburetors rebuilt, full detailing of engine compartment, brakes disassembled, cleaned and rebuilt, new brake and clutch hoses, new fluid reservoirs. All fuse holders have been bead blasted to eliminate electrical problems. Small parts in the engine compartment have all been nickel plated.
The car is a superb example of a classic Jaguar XKE and ready to be enjoyed thoroughly. It is a corrosion free, fast and tight car, without any play between engine and rear wheels - the steering is perfect as well.
This car is not only a great investment but also an absolute delight to drive and enjoy!
Priced reasonably in a rising market!

In 1971-72 or thereabouts, I purchased a used convertible 1963 BRG Jaguar which was not in very good condition but still very exciting to own. I got loads of attention driving that car. Unfortunately, a minor mishap on the Verrazzano Bridge (Brooklyn to Staten Island) dashed my dreams and I junked the car (I was a foolish and naive 22 year old). It went to a junkyard near 13th Avenue in Brooklyn for $75. I had paid $1200 as memory serves and also could not afford the upkeep and the garge very well. Sigh.
