This 1963 Jaguar XKE Series I is a non-running and partially disassembled project that left the factory as a roadster and was fitted with coupe-style bodywork and flared rear fenders prior to the seller’s 2003 acquisition. The bodywork is finished in primer and red paint, and additional modifications include revisions to the floor pans and the installation of a rollbar and aftermarket wheels. A 3.8-liter inline-six is equipped with triple Weber carburetors, and the car has a four-speed manual transmission. An aftermarket steering wheel is installed, and removed seats and instrumentation are included in the collection of parts that will accompany the car. This XKE coupe project is now offered with a clean Michigan title in the seller’s name.

Coupe-style bodywork with flared rear fenders was fitted at some point under prior ownership. Additional work involved modifications to the transverse support member and the floor pans. Exterior portions of the bodywork wear a primer finish, while red paint is visible on the interior and engine bay. The hood is missing.

The front wheels were sourced from an XJ-6, while the slotted rear wheels were sourced from a Chevrolet. Replacement brake components are fitted, and the rear suspension is reportedly from a later Series 1 3.8 model.

The cabin has been stripped and fitted with a roll bar. Removed seats are included in the sale. Additional parts that will accompany the project include a radio, console and glovebox, and dash components.

An aftermarket steering wheel is fitted, and partial instrumentation is included in the project. An odometer is not installed. Total mileage is unknown.

The 3.8-liter inline-six is fitted with triple Weber carburetors and a revised manifold. The radiator is missing. A video of the engine cranking on the starter motor with the spark plugs removed and showing oil pressure is provided below.

The four-speed manual transmission is said to be a replacement unit.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
