Ebay item 8/13/15
www.ebay.com/itm/Jaguar-E-Type-2-door-coupe-/271955610054
Opening bid US $87,500, no reserve, no bids 6 days left in auction. Car now said to be in Morganville, New Jersey. 60k miles.
Sellers description:
zero rust car,, build date 12/61 sold and registered in 1962. This car was repainted once many years ago and doesn't appear to have ever left the body shop as there is still masking tape (possibly from thirty or forty years ago) still remaining is some areas. I purchased the car non running. It now runs and drives, all electronics work well.
recently the dunlop brakes calipers have been removed and rebuilt, fuel pump rebuilt, carbs rebuilt, new stainless steel exhaust installed, fluids changed. It runs and drives but still needs a little TLC to make it a long distance driver.
The engine is not a matching number engine.
The body and floors are amazingly solid and nice. I looked closely at every corner and do not see and rust anywhere on it.
The bonnet has been repaired with a seem up the center. The passenger side is the original section with the welded louver, the drivers side section was changed and no longer has the welded louver.
I believe the car is very complete and would be an extremely easy restoration.
I welcome any inspection of the car

This Jaguar XKE is a flat-floor, welded-louver coupe that was manufactured on December 27, 1961 and delivered to its first owner through Jaguar Cars of New York before being moved from the US to the seller’s collection in the Netherlands in 2016. Power is from a replacement 3.8-liter inline-six mated to a Moss four-speed manual transmission, and the car wears an older repaint in metallic blue. Additional features include triple SU carburetors, four-wheel disc brakes, painted wire wheels, black leather interior upholstery, a laminated wood-rim steering wheel, glass-covered headlights, and a replacement “long-muffler” dual exhaust system. This left-hand drive Series I coupe is offered in the Netherlands with tools, a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, and Dutch registration in the seller’s name.
Originally finished in Opalescent Bronze, the exterior was repainted in its current shade of metallic blue several decades ago. The paintwork was reportedly not clear-coated and is thin enough to reveal the original color in several areas; the seller also notes that masking tape from the repaint was still in place over the brightwork upon his acquisition, but has since been removed. The factory color remains visible in the trunk as well as on the firewall and front subframe, the latter of which is said to show evidence of older repairs. The left side of the hood was previously replaced with a segment featuring a stamped louver, which in turn was changed for a factory-style spot-welded version after the seller’s purchase. A welded middle seam remains visible on the inside of the hood.
Painted 15” knock-off wire wheels wear Michelin XVS tires displaying overspray up front as well as Dunlop rubber that exhibits sidewall cracking in the rear. Exterior details include a bullet-style side mirror, Triplex glass headlight covers, split chrome bumpers, and a cowl-mounted antenna.
The low-backed bucket seats are trimmed in black leather, with matching upholstery covering the door panels, dash, console sides, and door sills. The driver’s seat was reupholstered in 2017 using matching period-look leather. Dot-pattern aluminum trim extends from the middle dash to the center console. Black Hardura lines the cargo area, which houses a spare wheel with a nested tool kit.
The three-spoke steering wheel features a laminated wood rim with exposed aluminum on its inner edge and frames a 160-mph speedometer as well as a tachometer with an inset clock. The five-digit odometer show 64k miles, approximately 350 of which have been added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. Supplementary gauges, toggle switches, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio are located in the center stack.
The replacement 3.8-liter DOHC inline-six bears cylinder head stamp R6058-9 and is fed by triple SU carburetors. Additional features include a Lucas voltage regulator, a Marston radiator, an early-style coolant header tank, a Lucas windshield wiper motor with a 1961 date code, and cylindrical hydraulic fluid reservoirs. The carburetors, fuel system, and four-wheel disc brakes are said to have been serviced under previous ownership, while fluid changes were performed in 2020. The seller notes that the engine does not run smoothly before it has reached operating temperature.
A new factory-style exhaust system was installed prior to the seller’s acquisition. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Moss four-speed gearbox with synchromesh on its top three gears. Flat floorboards were utilized on early XKEs such as this example before recessed pans were adopted during production in 1962.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate lists the original colors and component numbers as well as delivery to the first owner through Jaguar Cars of New York.
