Ebay item 7/6/07
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-E-Type-Fixed-Head-1962-Jaguar-XKE-Coupe_W0QQitemZ ...
Current bid $5,000 reserve not met, 1 bid, 9 days left in auction. Car now said to be located in Appleton, Wisconsin.

Sellers description:
1962 Series 1 Jaguar XKE Fixed Head Coupe. It is the 646th left hand drive coupe built and the production date was in March of 1962.

I bought the white Jag with red leather interior in 1967 and am the second owner of this classic beauty. I was told the original owner bought this car brand new in England and transported it to the USA. (Would you believe the first owner traded it in on a Jeep??) I have a clear title to the car.

The 3.8 liter dual overhead cam 6 cylinder engine ran beautifully until about 20 years ago when I had to pull the battery because battery acid got on the wiring harness and eroded the wires. The engine has not been turned over since. All the joints & wheels were lubricated in 2000 because we flat towed it to my new house. It has always been kept in a garage protected from the elements. The car has not been in any accidents since I have owned it, but it does have some door dings and scratches.

The Jaguar has matching engine and chassis serial numbers. One of the front bonnet hinges is rusted, all the weather stripping needs replacing. A metal trim piece on the windshield and the glass windshield washer bottle is missing. It has the original stunning wire wheels, along with the original leather tool kit, jack/hammer and spare white wall tire. The speedometer was replaced shortly after I purchased it because it was not functioning so the original miles are unknown. It has a rear gear ratio of 3.31:1. The flywheel was replaced in 1967 after I purchased it. The engine was disassembled in the mid 1970’s to re-gasket, service and blueprint by a classic engine specialist, along with replacing the fuel pump. Sorry, no records exist – all was lost in a water-damaged basement at previous home. We do have some old original factory literature for a 4.2 engine 2+2 car which can be used for reference. We also have a 1969 Chilton and 1974 Haynes service manuals.

Some minor bodywork was done for some small imperfections and the body was completely repainted the original egg-shell white color in the late 1960’s. The car has some minor rust for a car that is 45 years old. The bonnet has separate hood louvers, sunken foot wells and the hood latch releases are inside the passenger compartments. The car has additional unique identifying features including an etched metal gauge panel, smooth wood adjustable steering wheel and wood knob on the 4-speed shifter.

This XKE deserves a full restoration !

Hi guys. I have bought this car in march 2008 and imported in Italy. I'll put back the car at her factory's spec. keeping the original colour combination of cream paintwork and red interior. I'll add same pictures asa the restoration will start.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
