for sale on eBay July 8, 2011

"----THIS IS A NUMBERS MATCHING CAR----

This is an opportunity to secure one of the most collectible classic/exotic sports cars in history.
This car has been undergoing restoration for a number of years with the final phase, body/paint and assembly being the majority of what remains to be accomplished.
Many of the replacement body panels on hand are currently difficult to find. If you want to achieve a 100 point car, most of what is required to be sourced is on hand, no modifications having been made to this car.

The Museum of Modern Art in New York has two scale-models on permanent display in their design collections since 1964.

THIS OPPORTUNITY CAN ONLY BE APPRECIATED BY SEEING THE VEHICLE AND EVERYTHING INCLUDED IN THE SALE!

The Type 1 Jaguar (there were three types) is the most sought after XKE. It has the following fundamental specs.

3.8 Liter DOHC inline 6 Cylinder
3 SU carburetors generating 265 HP
4 Wheel Brakes Dunlop discs, vacuum servo.
2 door fastback
Weight and front / rear distribution 24.1 cwt, 49.6% front, 50.4% rear.
Wheelbase 8 ft, front track 4 ft 2 in, rear track 4 ft 2 in, length 14 ft 7.3 in, width 5 ft 5.2 in, height 4 ft.
Front suspension -- fully independent -- wishbone, torsion bars, anti-roll bar.
Rear suspension -- fully independent -- lower wishbone, upper driveshaft link, radius arms, coil springs, anti-roll bar.

This coupe has already undergone partial restoration including most disassembly, inspection and acquisition of significant replacement parts, overhaul of the engine, gearbox and rear end and more (read on).

The Engine has been rebuilt ($6k-$8k value)

The odometer reads "11846" so I assume the car had 111,846 miles. As the engine has been rebuilt and not installed, there is zero miles on the engine and drivetrain.

The original gearbox (straight 4 speed box, no synchro in first) has been rebuilt ($2k value)

As stated, many parts have already been refurbished.

THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS in new/OEM spec parts are on hand for the reassembly INCLUDING

5 brand NEW electrical harnesses

Assorted new body panels for the underbody, under bonnet, outer lower side panels

NEW original specification windshield

NEW original specification chrome headers and exhaust system

NEW original specification floor panels

The pictures included here are provided to give an idea of just a portion of the new replacement parts, the actual engine condition, etc., as the volume of parts both new and refurbished are too many to be used in photos in this ad.

The main work remaining is the replacement of on hand body panels, some remaining minor component disassembly, prep and paint, some refurb of parts and of course, the interior and final assembly.

These coupes have been bringing $90,000 and more in classic car auctions. Many experts predict that the early Type I XKE Coupe is one of the next collectible sports cars to rise dramatically in value. Many are being scooped up by European brokers for restoration and sale overseas.

This vehicle is BEING SOLD AS IS. NO WARRANTY OR GUARANTY, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED
This vehicle needs to be trailered to its new home as it is in a state of disassembly/partial restoration"

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
