Current Bid: $60,000 Ends In: 6 days

Auction description:
This 1963 Jaguar XKE is a Series I fixed-head coupe that was recently removed from indoor storage, where it reportedly resided for approximately 41 years. Finished in Carmen Red over black leather, the car is US-market example and was shown at various Jaguar club events in the late 1960s and early 1970s, before being placed on display in the Henry Ford Museum. Power is from the numbers-matching 3.8-liter inline-six, which is paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox. The engine starts and runs, though an inspection and service will be required before the car can be driven. This Series I XKE is now offered by the selling dealer in Texas with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, factory tools and manuals, club awards, judging sheets, and a clear Michigan title.

The Carmen Red finish is experiencing flaking and cracking, as shown in the close-up photos provided in the gallery below. Paintwork is believed to have been performed sometime prior to 1968.

Chrome wire wheels are secured with 2-eared spinners and come wrapped in period Dunlop Road Speed tires. The car has been off of the road since 1978, and the condition of the brake and suspension systems is unknown. 21k miles are indicated on the 5-digit odometer.

After removing the car from longterm storage, a new battery was installed, the fluids were changed, and an auxiliary fuel tank was hooked up. The 3.8-liter DOHC inline-six now starts and runs, though a full service is required.

The included Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate confirms the original color and shows a dispatch date of December 4, 1962.

The factory jack, non-marring “Thor” hammer, tool roll, and matching chrome spare tire reside in the rear compartment.

The car was shown at various Jaguar club events in the 1960s and 1970s, and a collection of trophies and awards from this period accompanies the sale.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
