This 1964 Jaguar XKE Series I coupe was built on February 17, 1964 and delivered to the US through Jaguar Cars of New York. The car is powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Finished in Cream over red leather, the car is equipped with enclosed headlights, 15″ wire-spoke steel wheels, power-assisted disc brakes, triple windshield wipers, an AM radio, and a heater. The selling dealer acquired the car in 2024, and work in preparation for the sale involved installing an auxiliary electric cooling fan and replacing the front brake calipers and hoses, thermostat, tires, valve cover gasket, spark plugs and wires, and engine mounts. This XKE Series I coupe is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate and a clean Pennsylvania title.
The Series I E-Types were equipped with covered headlights and taillights mounted above the chrome rear bumpers. This example came finished from the factory in Cream and was repainted some time ago. Additional equipment includes enclosed headlights, a louvered clamshell hood, wraparound chrome bumpers, a driver-side mirror, triple windshield wipers, a side-hinged rear hatch, and dual exhaust outlets. The seller notes paint bubbling.
The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and were mounted with 165HR15 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires in preparation for the sale. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. Moss front calipers and replacement front brake hoses were installed by the selling dealer.
The cabin features bucket seats that have been reupholstered in red leather along with color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Interior appointments include black vinyl dash trim, a sliding rearview mirror, three-point seatbelts, an AM radio, and a heater. The front carpets were replaced in preparation for the sale.
The three-spoke steering wheel wears an aftermarket lace-up cover and frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 75k miles, which the seller states is not accurate. Total mileage is unknown.
The 3.8-liter inline-six features triple SU carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Work in preparation for the sale involved an oil change, the installation of an additional electric cooling fan, and replacement of the thermostat, valve cover gasket, spark plugs, ignition wires, and engine mounts.
The cylinder head stamp reads RA 5694-9, and a corresponding number is listed on the Heritage.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a Moss four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Two replacement exhaust flex header pipes were installed by the selling dealer.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate shows the original colors and drivetrain numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates.
The car is titled using VIN J64890126, which incorporates the chassis number prepended by “J64.”
