This 1970 Jaguar XKE Series II 2+2 was acquired by the seller in 1999 and was refurbished in the early 2000s. It is finished in Sable over beige leather and is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six equipped with triple SU carburetors and linked with a three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. Equipment includes a louvered clamshell hood, four-wheel disc brakes, 15″ wire wheels, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, a cassette stereo, and air conditioning. This XKE 2+2 is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, the owner’s manual, spare and removed parts, a car cover, and a clean Maine title in the seller’s name.
The car came finished from the factory in Sable and was repainted and repaired in the early 2000s after hitting a deer. Exterior equipment includes sealed-beam open headlights, a driver-side mirror, wraparound chrome bumpers, bright trim, a louvered clamshell hood, and dual exhaust outlets. A chip on the right rear quarter panel and a blemish on the bumper are shown up close in the gallery.
The 15″ Dunlop wire wheels are secured by earless knock-offs and were mounted with 205/70 Michelin Radial X tires in preparation for the sale. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors.
The 2+2 cabin was refreshed in the early 2000s and features seating surfaces upholstered in beige leather along with a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpets. An Alpine cassette stereo has been added, and the seller states that the air conditioning compressor was rebuilt and the hoses replaced, though the system has not been charged.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline as well as an analog clock and gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 33k miles, and total mileage is unknown. The tachometer is inoperative.
The 4.2-liter inline-six has been fitted with triple SU carburetors and was rated at 246 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque when new. The engine was reportedly rebuilt during the refurbishment. An aluminum radiator has been installed and the oil pressure sending unit was replaced in preparation for the sale. The removed dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors accompany the vehicle.
Engine stamping 7R39604-9 and a corresponding number is listed on the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential.
The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate lists the factory equipment, colors, serial numbers, and production dates.
