Owner: Richard Molten

I live in Columbia, SC where I practice architecture. This is the second E-Type for me and I have owned this one for about 5 years. I drive the car weekly and daily in nice weather. My immediate objective is to keep the car in first class driveable condition. The car is all original with about 60,000 miles. As far as I can tell this may be the last existing imported car of this model.

Hi this is my Jaguar E Type Series 2 Fixed Head Coupe which I bought and indeed rescued from Jaguar Landrover Classic in Coventry who bought it from it's last U.S owner and put it in their storage rack ready to convert into electric. The engine was very fresh and smooth, it had a bare metal repaint, and apart from leaking carbs and some storage related issues, it has been brilliant. Everywhere I go I get stopped by people telling me how beautiful it is and what a lovely colour it is.

I am in the motor trade, have my own workshop, and my father is a retired Jaguar engineer so knows the car inside and out. So far since I bought it in January 2019 I have rebuilt both carbs, removed, cleaned and re-fitted the exhaust system as it was leaking and put stainless tubular manifolds on. Engine oil and filter change, gearbox and rear axle oil changes using the best oils from Redline. Brake and clutch fluids changed, new choke cables, fixed the dash top which was feathering at the edges, fixed an oil leak on the vacuum system. Next jobs are removing and replacing all bushes front and rear with Poly bushes, and then sending the seats off to be refurbished with the hope that I can keep the leather as I love the smell.

It now sits in my garage next to my '73' MGB roadster which has had similar treatment lavished upon it! It has been my dream since I was a child to drive one, let alone own one!

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
