Opening bid $25,000 (Reserve not met), no bids yet, 5 days left in auction. This auction is based from Orlando, Florida, USA.

Sellers description:
1973 JAGUAR XKE ROADSTER VIN # UD1521173B Very nice, well kept original Jaguar with only 40K original miles. Red with black leather interior, black canvas top, and bootcover. Body, paint, and body alignment are excellent. Black leather interior looks extremely good. Mechanically it runs out strong with the rare automatic transmission for ease of driving. It has chrome wires, Pirrelli tires, period luggage rack, original Lucas seal beam headlights, and it even has an 8 track tape player. Just serviced and ready for the fall season. Moderate reserve for a great Jaguar. New owner will be really happy with the overall condition and drivability of this Jag.

Sellers description:
My father's favorite car, purchased in Florida last year, but alas, he has passed away and I have no need for this vehicle. This vehicle has been in the garage for the last six months. Many many improvements have been made such as upgrading the distributor system to electronic crane system, also removing the old radiator and replacing it with a very expensive aluminum racing type radiator ($1,000) to greatly reduce engine heat (even though the engine has never overheated). Spark plugs and spark plug wires were changed and upgraded to iridium spark plugs and very expensive manacore racing spark plug wires. The fuel pump is a brand new double pump rebuild. The gasoline sensor is also new. A professional stereo system installed ($2,000) that is hidden in the rear seat compartment and is controlled with an optical remote control, thereby maintaining everything on the dash console original right down to the eight track radio! The cleverly installed amplified stereo receiver system plays CD's and MP3's! Dad also had the front and rear bumpers and overhangs, professionally rechromed ($2,300) and also had alot of the body seals removed and replaced. I should also mention that you should notice that the overhangs or bumperettes are the chrome/rubber type and not the huge ugly 1974 all rubber bumperettes. The front upper and lower mouth moldings are new. Among other notables, the wheels are Pirelli tires with plenty of tire thread left. The chrome spoke rims are in good condition and produce a decent shine. Many other chrome parts were replaced with show room type chrome. I am not sure specifically which other items where rechromed but nevertheless, the car looks great. Also replaced was the voltage regulator and many of the hoses in the engine compartment. The paint on the car shines well as you can see in the pictures, but in general, it is just ok in my opinion since it is a driver vehicle and not a show car. Therefore it does have a nicks, and scratches here and there. This is not a show car but it still looks great driving down the street. The top is canvas, in good condition and comes with a canvas cover. The side chrome moldings for the top have been replaced to new ones. When riding in this car, it seemed that every route taken was like a parade with people waving and running up to the car at restaurants or anywhere we parked the vehicle for that matter. Red lights were always a conversation stop. Which after a while could be a good or bad thing. Cops would always stop us just to talk about the car. The interior of the vehicle seems in good condition and the head rests are full and not droopy. The leather on the doors seem straight and tight. The seats look good but the driver's seat has a little wear to it but nothing that can't be improved by an interior shop. The seats have no tears. The sun visors are new along with the hardware that they are attached to. The air conditioner blows super cold air but the fan needs either adjustment or the switch changed because the fan mechanism does make a little noise when you hit a hard bump. I took the car out recently for a quick test drive for the first time in six months around the neighborhood, and noticed that the car has good power around town, but I do remember dad mentioned one time that the carburetors needed to be synchronized for better performance on the high end. The automatic transmission seems to work well and all gears work. I don't know much else since I don't work on cars I am not a mechanic..... but this car looks like a good investment for the lucky winner! I look at it this way, why spend over fifty grand on a new sports car that will depreciate in value when you can invest in a true classic. When parked in front of restaurants, next to new corvettes and mercedes sports cars, everyone would gravitate to this jag. I know these cars have been known to sell in the low to mid forties but the family needs the cash and can not afford to wait around to get that kind of money so therefore, I have set no reserve in order to make a quick deal. Please remember that although this car looks great, it is not being sold as a show car or totally restored vehicle. The title is a Florida Title and I have written power of attorney and legal authority to sign over the vehicle as I wish. There are no liens on this vehicle whatsoever.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
