This 1973 Jaguar XKE is a Series III roadster powered by a 5.3-liter V12 paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. The car was reportedly acquired by its current owner in 1981 and is finished in turquoise with a black convertible top and a black leather interior. Equipment includes wire wheels with Jaguar two-eared knockoffs, a convertible top boot, a black tonneau cover, a rear luggage rack, a quad-outlet stainless steel exhaust system, and air conditioning. The car received an oil and filter change in March 2020, and the radiator cap was replaced. Additional work completed within the last five years includes a valve job, a timing chain service, carburetor refurbishment, and replacement of the brake pads and rear shocks. This E-type is now offered on behalf of its current owner with service records, manufacturer’s literature, lead knock-off hammers, touch-up paint, blue California plates, and a clean California title.
The car was reportedly stripped and refinished in turquoise during current ownership. Equipment includes a replacement black Robbins convertible top, chrome bumpers with impact bumper blocks, and a rear luggage rack. Paint checking is visible on the driver-side rear quarter panel, scratches are present on multiple panels, and dings in the front grille surround are noted. The seller notes that the convertible top-to-windshield header seal needs replacement.
Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels are secured with two-eared Jaguar knock-off nuts and wear Firestone FR710 whitewall tires showing 2017 date codes. A spare wire wheel is fitted in the trunk below the floor. The brake pads were replaced in February 2015, and the rear shocks were replaced in August of the same year.
The cabin features black leather upholstery with matching black trim and carpeting. The bucket seats feature headrests refreshed with replacement foam, and an aftermarket stereo is fitted. Additional features include rocker switches on the dash, a padded center console armrest, and air conditioning.
The three-spoke steering wheel fronts factory Smiths instrumentation including a 7k-rpm tachometer, a 160-mph speedometer, and auxiliary gauges that extend across the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 75k miles, approximately 60k of which were added by the current owner.
The 5.3-liter V12 features polished rain shields, powder-coated intake manifolds and air boxes, and four Stromberg carburetors, each of which were overhauled and polished in February 2015. Additional service performed in 2015 included replacement of the timing chain, tensioner, chain guide, water pump, thermostat, and front crankshaft seal, as well as a valve job and repacking the rear crankshaft seal.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. A stainless steel replacement exhaust system is fitted, and scrapes are noted underneath.
The sale includes service records, an operation and maintenance manual, touch-up paint, and a workshop manual.
