This 1974 Jaguar XKE is a Series III roadster that is said to have been sold new by Hornburg Jaguar in Los Angeles, California and was acquired by the current owner in 1984. The car is finished in Primrose Yellow over black leather and power comes from a 5.3-liter V12 mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes 15” chrome wheels, a black soft top, quad Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, an Alpine stereo, four-wheel disc brakes, and a stainless-steel exhaust system. A mechanical refurbishment carried out between 2011 and 2018 included overhauls of the engine and gearbox, along with refreshment of the suspension, brakes, steering rack, and air conditioning. This Series III roadster is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with a blue California license plate, service records, a repair manual, a black removable hardtop, and a clean California title.
The body was refinished in its factory shade of Primrose Yellow in 2018. Equipment includes V12-badging, chrome bumpers, US-spec bumper guards, a louvered hood, dual central exhaust outlets, and a black soft top with a matching boot cover. Bubbling on the lower edge of the hood and other imperfections are visible. A black removable hardtop and an uninstalled rear window are included in the sale. The seller notes that the hardtop vent trim pieces are missing, the spring for the trunklid is weak, and the included tonneau cover requires a few snap buttons to fully secure.
Chrome 15” wheels wear E-Type hubcaps and are mounted with 205/70 Michelin Defender tires that show 2016 date codes. Four-wheel disc brakes came standard on the Series III XKE along with independent front and rear suspension. The front suspension and brakes were refreshed around 2016 while the rear brake calipers were replaced in December 2018.
The interior features seats that have been reupholstered in black leather along with matching door panels and carpeting with rubber Jaguar-branded floor mats. An Alpine stereo and speakers have been installed, and the car is equipped with air conditioning, which has been converted to run on R134a refrigerant. The seller notes the clock is inoperable.
A leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline, and gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows just under 73k miles.
The 5.3-liter V12 features quad side-draft Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was overhauled by Steve’s Jaguar Service in Canoga Park, California. The alternator, clutch master cylinder, and radiator were replaced in 2018 and upgraded electric fans and wiring were installed. The fuel pump was replaced in June 2020, and a stainless steel exhaust system has been added. Receipts from the aforementioned work are provided in the gallery. The seller notes that the firewall VIN plate is missing.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission, which was refreshed in 2011. The rear differential was repaired and the output shaft assembly overhauled in June 2020. The car is titled with VIN VE1S24658
