This 1965 Jaguar XKE roadster was reportedly purchased by the current owner as a partially disassembled project in 1994. The car was put into storage in 2013 and removed in 2020, at which time it was serviced with a fuel system cleaning and the replacement of the fuel pump, the distributor cap and rotor, the brake booster andhoses, and the coolant hoses. The car is finished in red with a black convertible top, and power is provided by a 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes 15″ knock-off wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, and a Sony AM/FM/cassette stereo. This Series I XKE roadster is now offered as a running project in Pennsylvania with a replacement upholstery kit, a black carpet set, removed interior parts, its removed rear bumper pieces, and a clean Iowa title in the seller’s name.
The body was reportedly refinished in red in 1996 and is fitted with chrome front split bumpers, a left wing-mounted mirror, glass headlight covers, and a black convertible soft top. The rear bumpers, door window regulators, and door glass are not installed and will accompany the car. The seller notes a spot of visible body filler beneath the paint on the right rocker panel, as well as scratches beneath the front bumper, paint chips on the edges of several panels, and a tear in the right rear of the convertible top.
15″ knock-off wire wheels are wrapped in Avon tires that were installed over 20 years ago, according to the seller. Braking is handled by four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear rotors, and the car rides on four-wheel independent suspension with torsion bars up front and coil springs at the rear. Service performed at Ragtops & Roadsters of Perkasie, Pennsylvania, in 2020 included replacing the brake servo, sanding the brake rotors, and replacing brake pads and flex hoses.
The interior was disassembled during previous ownership and remains partially disassembled. The carpets, dash top, glove box assembly, and dash top have been removed. Equipment includes a driver’s seat with cracked and torn upholstery, a black-upholstered passenger seat, black lap belts, and a Sony AM/FM/cassette stereo. The seller states that a replacement black vinyl upholstery kit will accompany the car along with a black carpet set. The removed center console, door panels, door glass, glove box liner, and other trim that will accompany the car.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock. Ancillary gauges for water temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are mounted in the center of the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 70k miles, and true mileage is unknown.
The 4.2L twin-cam inline-six is equipped with triple SU side-draft carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque. The engine block was replaced during previous ownership, and service performed by Ragtops & Roadsters in 2020 included removing and cleaning the spark plugs, replacing the distributor cap and rotor, replacing the fuel pump and fuel lines, installing new radiator and heater hoses, and replacing the coolant. An electric cooling fan is installed.
Cylinder head stamping 7E1961-9 matches the engine number noted on the underhood identification plate, while engine block stamping 7E-5718-9 indicates that the block has been replaced.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.
