seller description:
1964 JAGUAR E-TYPE, SERIES I, 4.2 LITRE, LHD

- A magnificent early Left-Hand Drive '4.2'
- Matching-numbers example
- A superb, well-maintained car
- The car is very solid at speed and runs wonderfully

The Jaguar E-Type is a British automobile legend; manufactured by Jaguar between 1961 and 1975. It combined sensational looks, high performance and competitive pricing that instantly captured the imagination of the British public at the time and it has remained a truly iconic piece of British motoring history since.

It was voted "the most beautiful car of all time" by the Daily Telegraph;

Sports Car International Magazine placed the E Type at number one on their list of Top Sports Cars of the decade.

On the cars public release in 1961, Enzo Ferrari called it "The most beautiful car ever made"

Of all the many E-Type variants, it is the 'Series 1' 4.2-litre Roadster that many enthusiasts consider the most desirable, combining as it does the purity of the original concept with the superior performance of the larger engine. The 4.2-litre version of Jaguar's sensational E-Type was launched in October 1964, a more user-friendly all-synchromesh gearbox and superior Lockheed brake servo forming part of the improved specification together with the bigger, torquier engine.

Apart from '4.2' badging, the car's external appearance was unchanged but under the skin there were numerous detail improvements. These mainly concerned the cooling and electrical systems, the latter gaining an alternator and adopting the industry standard negative ground, while the interior boasted a matt black dashboard and improved seating arrangements.

The top speed of around 150mph for the 3.8 liter engine remained unchanged, the main performance gain resulting from the larger engine being improved acceleration and flexibility.

ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC EXAMPLE

This very nice Jaguar E-Type Series 1 was built on December, 16 1964 according to the Jaguar Heritage certificate we obtained. On the 20th of January 1965 the car was dispatched through Jaguar Cars Frankfurt Germany to its first owner Venza Amlh.

It was subsequently exported to Italy where it remained until 2015. The Jaguar is currently offered with Italian EU registration papers.

All numbers are matching with the Jaguar Heritage Certificate. We bought the car in Florence where she was part of an impressive car collection of just very nice condition and very unique cars.

This E-type is a superb and a very well-maintained car. The former owner used the Jaguar quite often in the area of Firenze where the color suited off-course very well.

It runs very well and has excellent oil pressure. The paint is very nice. This car was originally Black with a Tan interior and Black soft top. Paint, chrome and interior are very beautiful. It has all of the original equipment and accessories, and runs and drives beautifully. This is a truly professionally restored example with extraordinary attention to detail of this coveted first series of E-Type Jaguars, with the legendary glass covered headlights, small 'mouth' opening at the front, hand made stainless steel exhausts, 4.2 L liter engine. It is also of considerable note that this fine example has not only been fully restored cosmetically but mechanically also.

CONDITION EXTERIOR

This is a truly professionally restored example which has been restored with attention to originality details.

The paint and chrome are very nice and every bit is as nice as it looks in the pictures, the Jaguar has beautiful chrome wired wheels which are in as-new condition.

The panel fit is superb with nice lines all the way around.

The doors open and close crisply and solidly. The bonnet closes perfectly as well.

The hood is newly installed during the restoration and is period correct with the correct material and fitting.

CONDITION INTERIOR

The Black leather interior shows excellent and looks gorgeous with it's period correct leather centre panel and console.

One of the nicest interiors ever made by Jaguar, and much more desirable then the later Series 2 and 3 examples.

The rubbers around the doors are all in good condition due to the fact that the Jaguar has always been stored in a heated storage.

All meters, gauges, switches, choke and lights are in good working condition.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT

The engine and engine bay look excellent, very clean without big signs of age or use.

The 4.2-litre is considered by many enthusiasts as the most desirable engine.

DRIVING EXPERIENCE

It is not strange that driving this icon is very special. Still now, the driving capabilities of this Jaguar E-type are very special. It is not a difficult car to drive but it needs good handling because of the power in the car. The car is very solid at speed, runs wonderfully, and maintains excellent temperatures.

Not sure if the engine number is correct here. It looks like 7E-2023-9 not 7E2526-9. Have updated the data above.

For sale at Garage Andreas of Castelnau d'Auzan for 165,000 euros. Seller's description below.
www.garageandreas.com/for-sale/for-sale-1964-jaguar-e-type-series-1/

We are pleased to offer this stunning1964 E Type Series 1 in Primrose Yellow with black leather interior, black mohair soft top and tonneau cover. This E Type, chassis number 1E10387, is a genuine European specification car with Heritage Certificate, being delivered to the German distributor Peter Lindner of Frankfurt and then to its first owner Mr Venzay Amlh on 20 January 1965. In 2006 the vehicle was with its second owner, Ms Arena Marcello and then transferred to her husband, Mr Fratini Marcello in 2007. We are told Mr Fratini is a serious collector of cars with one or two mechanics and the car was maintained regardless of cost, as reported in the documents showing that the car was presented for roadworthiness every year.

The car being originally black has undergone a bare metal respray probably when in the ownership of Mr Fratini as the work was done by Francesco Lotti of Scarlatti Italy. The car also boasts the professional installation of power steering by Jaguar specialists Vicarage Carriage Co at a cost of £10,000 making this E Type a delight to drive. During the respray period it is obvious the car has had money spent in other areas, such as new wire wheels, retrim in the luggage area, new mohair hood and lots of mechanical work. The car is Italian registered.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
