This 1965 Jaguar XKE is a Series I roadster that was completed on February 2, 1965, reportedly put into storage in 1986 by its long-term previous owner in Arizona, and recently acquired by the current owner. Subsequent recommissioning is said to have included rebuilds of the carburetors along with replacement of the brake hoses and brake and clutch master cylinders. Finished in gray with a black soft top over matching leather upholstery, the car is powered by a numbers-matching 4.2-liter inline-six equipped with triple SU carburetors and paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a push-button AM/FM radio, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rears, and polished 15” knock-off wire wheels. This XKE is being offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate and a clean Arizona title.
Factory finished in Warwick Grey, the car is believed to have been repainted some time ago, and exterior features include a black soft top, a louvered hood, glass headlight covers, polished Talbot side-view mirrors, and central exhaust outlets. Various paint chips and other imperfections can be seen.
Polished 15” wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-off spinners and mounted with older Dunlop whitewall tires that are said to be in need of replacement. A full-size spare is found in the trunk, and stopping power is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rears. The seller notes that the brake master cylinder and hoses were recently replaced.
The cabin features bucket seats trimmed in black leather with a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Lap belts are fitted for both occupants, and equipment includes a central arm rest, a height-adjustable rearview mirror, push-button AM/FM radio, and toggle switches for vehicle functions.
A wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel with an E-Type horn button frames a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with an inset clock. A quartet of auxiliary instrumentation is found in the center stack, and the five-digit odometer shows 41k miles, only a handful of which were added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 4.2-liter inline-six is fitted with triple SU carburetors that are said to have been recently rebuilt by the seller. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission, and the clutch master cylinder has reportedly been replaced.
Engine block stamping 7E 2209-9 matches the number listed on the chassis plate and on the Heritage Trust certificate. A photo of the matching cylinder head stamping can be seen in the gallery.
Additional underside photos are provided below.
The Heritage Trust certificate lists the factory colors and shows a completion date of February 2, 1965.
