This 1965 Jaguar XKE is a Series I roadster that was completed on January 5, 1965, for personal export delivery and distributed via Jaguar Cars of New York. The car was refurbished between 2021 and 2022 by V-12 Motorsports of Indian Trail, North Carolina. Work is said to have involved a repaint in dark blue over replacement dark blue leather upholstery as well as a rebuild of the 4.2-liter inline-six and overhauls of the four-speed manual transmission, suspension, brakes, and differential. Equipment includes a black soft top, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, a stainless steel dual exhaust system, and a retro-style push-button radio. Acquired by the selling dealer in May 2023, this XKE is now offered in California with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, refurbishment photos, and a clean New Jersey title.
Finished from the factory in Opalescent Golden Sand, the car is said to have been stripped to bare metal before receiving a repaint in Opalescent Dark Blue as part of the aforementioned refurbishment. Exterior details include a black soft top with a matching boot, recessed headlights with clear covers, split chrome-finished bumpers, a louvered forward-hinged hood, dual side mirrors, and taillights mounted above the rear bumpers.
Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels are secured via two-eared knock-off spinners and wear Cooper CS5 Grand Touring tires, while a full-size spare is stored below the trunk floor. The car is equipped with a fully independent suspension, which was overhauled as part of the build. The four-wheel disc brake system was also refreshed at that time with a replacement master cylinder, brake booster, rotors, and calipers.
Trimmed in red from the factory, the interior was reupholstered during the refurbishment and features low-back buckets seats covered in dark blue leather accompanied by a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpets. Lap belts are provided for both occupants, and additional appointments include a sliding rearview mirror as well as a retro-style push-button radio linked to speakers mounted on each side of the center stack.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock. Auxiliary gauges are housed in the center stack above a row of toggle switches for vehicle functions. The five-digit odometer shows 51k miles, and the selling dealer states that 200 miles have been added following the refurbishment. Total mileage is unknown.
The 4.2-liter inline-six and triple SU carburetors were rebuilt by V-12 Motorsports as part of the refurbishment. Additional work involved polishing the valve covers, overhauling the fuel system, and installing a replacement radiator and electric fan.
Cylinder head stamping 7E2167-9 is listed on the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate as the engine number.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via an overhauled four-speed manual transmission. The differential was also rebuilt, and a replacement clutch and flywheel were fitted during the build. A stainless-steel dual exhaust system has been installed.
A collection of photos taken during the refurbishment can be seen in the gallery.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate shows the original colors and drivetrain numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates.
