Auction description:
Lot 41
JAGUAR
Type E 4.2 cabriolet - 1965
N° de série : #1E11203
Moteur : #7I61640-S, six cylindres en ligne, avant, longitudinal, culasse straight port #7E 2510-9
This car is a Series 1 4.2 E-Type Jaguar first registered on November 5, 1965, and which was race driven in historic events in the 1990s.
In 2003, its present owner started a complete restoration with precise specifications aiming at originality and better reliability. The mechanical parts were entrusted to the Jaguar specialist Automotiv in Toulouse who fitted forged pistons, a modern oil filter and an oil cooler mounted under the radiator with a special alloy scoop. The original fan was replaced by a more efficient Kenlow type and the gearbox had been sent to England to be rebuilt.
The bare shell had been sand blasted, rust-proofed and re-assembled, the two front triangulated sub-frames had been replaced, one of those having been slightly damaged following an accident in a race. The front cross member is original with the number 'E 4.2 1E11203' stamped on it. The finish is of the Jaguar 'cream' tone with less red giving a more bright tone.
All the glasses had been changed for new ones, the black rag top is new like all the bolts, the electrical harness and the whole accessories. The braking system had been overhauled and the original front calipers were replaced by twin piston Cooper Craft ones for better efficiency.
The original SU fuel pump and the coil showing some weakness had been replaced by new items and the gear lever and its mounting had been ajusted.
The car was driven on about 1000 miles for tuning. The oil pressure when hot is perfect and the car does not overheat proving the quality of the restoration.
It will be delivered with its tool set, a diagram of the fuse box, the restoration files with color photos and all the bills amounting to 40 000 euros.
This is a rare opportunity to buy a perfectly restored 4.2 Series 1 DHC E-type ready to be driven on any distance.
