Car offered at:
www.gullwingmotorcars.com/1968-jaguar-xke-series-i-c-5014.htm

Seller's description:
This 1968 Jaguar Series 1 1/2 4.2 Roadster is a matching numbers two owner car that's been sitting in storage since 1988. Red with black interior. A good original candidate for straightforward restoration. Not currently running but an increasingly desirable and collectible Jaguar that's well worth the effort to get back on the road again. It's never been restored so you can be the first to do so. Series 1 1/2 roadster projects are becoming harder to come by making this one a rare and exciting find.

Hemmings advert 12/ 2023

VEHICLE LOCATION

Fort Bragg, CA

I'm the second owner of this 1968 Series 1.5 E-Type Roadster. After painting this original, Lavender Blue Beauty in custom red, and installing three 45 DCOE Weber carburetors, we earned third place in category at the Palo Alto Concours d'Delegance. All the numbers match, but a few items have changed since it left the factory, mainly the paint, tailpipes, carburetor and intake manifold. The Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, and airfilter housing are included. I have 5 Zenith-Stromberg carburettors and we are pretty certain that 2 of them are the originals, however, we could not find the original intake manifold, crossover pipe and airfilter adaptor. The previous owner cut an opening in the wall between the cab and boot (trunk) to accomodate an 8 Track player. Unfortunately, in 1988, circumstances changed and this awesome hotrod /extreme pleasure machine ended up in a barn until this year. After cleanup and inspection, we found the following bad news.

The tires need replacing, the brake calipers are seized, the trunk release cable is broken, the seat guides are stuck, there is a crack on the wood part of the steering wheel, some of the gauge bezels are tarnished, the engine may or may not turn over, but we cannot guarantee that there might not be some missing parts in regards to intake and California smog regulations, the front calipers were removed, in order for the front wheels to turn, but they are included.

The tires are shot and the spoke wheels have rust on them and the rear wheels won't turn due to the seized calipers. There is surface rust on the body panels except the bottom of the doors where the rust has penetrated ( see pics ). The drivers door needs some work when closing. These vehicles were made with some areas of thin metal that have rusted through, like the area underneath the heater blower and of course the floorboard inserts need to be replaced, which seems to be the norm on these older E-Types that have been neglected. I'm being as thorough and forthright as possible and the unibody and subframe appear to be in good shape, but it is restoration time. The pictures reveal all the flaws that we could find.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
