I love old english cars, mainly Triumphs. In 2007 I bought my first E-type (64 FHC 4.2 in good condition) and a few months later my second (64 FHC 3.8 for restoration, sold in 2008). Since my wife is pregnant I added another: a 69 2+2 series 2, but I sold this one too in 2008 when I bought a MKX .... (email)Updated December 11th, 2008. Not legal proof of ownership. |

Hello,
I bought the car in 2007 (for my wedding among others) in a restorated condition. All numbers match, colors have been changed during restauration. I own the heratiage certificate, I'll add the info on it once I'm at home. If wanted, I can also sent some pictures.
Kind regards,
Marc Florie

Hello, Marc. Nice car and a good example of an early 4.2 coupe.
I owned 1E30036 from 1982 until 1998. I suspect our cars were built on the same day! In any case, they're two of the earliest 4.2 FHCs built. My old car now has a good home in Denmark and is registered on this site. I am currently restoring 1E32208.
Congratulations on your purchase and I hope you enjoy your E-Type for many years.

The "1E" prefix is not stamped into the front subframe in the usual location, but it is on the chassis plate.
I saw other cars (e.g. 1e30020) having this, confirmed by JDHT, but on my Trust is nothing mentioned.

Marc, I owned 1E30020 for a few years; I now own 1E10320. Niether of these cars had the 1E prefix on the frame or ID plate. According to Jaguar, the first few hundred cars lacked this designation. The early 4.2 coupes have a unique interior that ended after a few hundred were built. Enjoy your Jag! Best Regards, Mike.

Hi, Craig. Your car was indeed built in1964, probably in the first week of September, using my old car's numbers as a guide. Model years in California and many other states actually begin in late summer of the previous year. If the car was originally sold in California, it should have a small metal tag reading "J65" riveted adjacent to the factory plate. This was a California requirement at the time, as their data-storage capabilities mandated the additional digits--or so I'm told. If you car was imported to Australia more than ten years ago I would be very surprised if California has any details still on file.
The first few hundred 4.2-liter cars had many interior details carried over from the 3.8-liter machines, such as the mocquette-covered rear wheelarches, the cubby boxes just below the B-pillars and the rear hatch stay. Your car will also have its horns in the bonnet and the brakelamp switch will be located on the upper left-hand side of the chassis rail, just forward of the alternator. You may also notice that your chassis plate was "edited" with tin snips and superimposed over another, to reflect the different lubrication requirements of the all-syncro gearbox.
As I've gotten into my current E-Type, 1E32208 (built 11/65), it's been interesting and educational to see all the small detail changes incorporated during production.

Hi Mark thankyou for this reply I have only just found it even though you left it in March. It was only brought to Australia in late 2005 and yes it still has the Californiaplate on that you mentioned The painter gave me a sample of the paint code you gave me #2335A and it looks all wrong. I think he has made a mistake as he called it ivory and it is a 234 Fiat colour looks very beige and has a green hint in it.Thanks by the way this is Val again I do all the emailing many thanks
