Ebay item 7/19/06

Current bid $1,025 reserve not met, 2 bids, 6 days left in auction. Buy it now price $24,900. 73k miles.

Sellers description:
1969 Jaguar XKE Type II Roadster. This is a Numbers Matching 4-speed car in It's original color, Primrose Yellow. Strong running car that is turn-key and ready to drive, registered Titled and driven in the dry climate State of Texas. This is a solid example in need of cosmetics, or drive and enjoy the car just the way it is. Many mechanical improvements, and some trim items were recently addressed to keep this vehicle safe, roadworthy and presentable for your driving enjoyment.

Inspection of the exterior of the car reveals older Lacquer Paint work in the original color. The usual checking and cracking found on older Lacquer paint jobs, and paint is coming off on various areas of the car. Looks presentable in terms of an old Jag with an aged Patina, budget for paint if perfection is your goal. A look down both sides of the car reveals straight body panels, no dents or scrapes, though two or three small dings have been observed when looking down the sides. As is typical with most E-types, bodywork was performed on the nose/mouth area of the hood. Body work has been performed on the car in the past, however we have observed no indication of major collision that would affect structural integrity of the car. Rocker panel area below battery storage area appears overall solid. Exterior trim and glass are in very good-to-excellent condition in terms of original. Convertible top was recently replaced in the correct material. All plastic lenses are crack-free except driver front turn signal. Both door seals have been recently replaced. Convertible top bows could use further adjustment to provide a better seal to the side glass when the top is up. The factory wire wheels are in exceptional condition in terms of original, with no pitting, and the tires show good tread and no dry rot.

Inspection of the interior of the car shows to be in overall good condition, bright looking gauge cluster, a wood steering wheel that is in good condition with the usual flexing in it from use, and a dash pad that is free of cracks or deformities. All seat belts are present. All gauges seem to function except the clock. Wipers, hazard lights and blower fan function, turn signal housing is cracked, rendering the turn signals inoperative. Headlights are missing one of the toggle switches, and therefore do not operate. The wiring harness is intact, soft and pliable, and in our opinion does not need replacing, just sorting out. Emergency brake operates as it should. Glove box liner is intact. Door panels are in exceptional original condition, and the only tears in the upholstery are from the top latches snagging the top of the seats on the outside edges when going up and down in a hurry. Convertible top boot goes with the car and is in very good condition. Carpets are in good condition.

Inspection of the trunk area reveals a solid spare tire well, with proper spare , very solid when spare is removed for inspection.

Most importantly, the undercarriage is solid. Whatever rust issues the car had were resolved with the replacement of both floor pans on both sides with the correct stamped-steel replacements.

Driving impressions of the car are very good. The engine starts every time, does not smoke and the compression was checked and is strong. Plenty of power, and does not overheat. All synchros are good when shifting in all gears, and the clutch feels firm and responsive. The brakes were repaired as needed and are very responsive as well. The front end is tight and the steering box is responsive. Ready to drive and enjoy in terms of mechanicals, new owner needs to sort out the headlights and turn signals to pass your State's safety inspection.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
