Car to be at auction 4/18
www.swva.co.uk/classic-car/jaguar-e-type-series-2-lhd-open-2-seater-1968/
Auction description:
This Jaguar E-Type S2 4.2 lit open tourer 2 seater - lhd was manufactured on 19.8.68, chassis no 1R7100 Engine No 7R1190 - 9. The 9 indicates she has a high compression cylinder head @ 9 two 1 fitted manual gear box. On the 11.9.68 she was dispatched to the USA and the first owner was a Mr. R.S. Swander of Illinois. This car was re-imported to the UK on 16.12.97, however is not registered in the UK, a copy of the duty paid certificate is with the car. The car has been dismantled, the engine has had the cylinder head removed etc. She will need a total re-build - on the plus side the hard work of taking her apart has been done, plus there are loads of new parts which come with the car including new pistons and body panels etc. There is a Jaguar E-type owners workshop manual you might find useful.
WE WILL NOT BE LISTING THE SPARES INVENTORY BUT WE INVITE PROSPECTIVE PURCHASERS TO INSPECT THEM - PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU MAKE AN APPOINTMENT.
Auctioneers notes: We have decided to sell the probate cars as non-runners, We found these cars in a barn-like building covered with sheets etc. It is obvious that they have been used up to 2015 judging by the tax discs. I would suggest a small amount of re-commissioning should be the order of the day and hopefully you will be very impressed with these cars when you view them.
N.B. The late Mr. Cherrett was an aero-nautical engineer and loved nothing more than taking a car apart, improving, it and putting it back together. He was also quite a character and had novel ideas to prevent theft of his vehicles, such as, the Lagonda had the steering column detached from the dash board, which meant that the steering wheel rested on the floor, his thinking was that it would be very difficult for thieves to take the car. We have attached the column to the dash board to enable us to move the car, but please, the buyer of this car must check that the work we did was done correctly and also check the steering box, he might have loosened that.
