very rare 1971 Jaguar E-type series II Coupe Vin # 2R28464. It is one of the very last E-type series II coupes ever made. From 1971 on all series III coupes were the larger less attractive 2x2 coupes. The e-type 2 seater coupes versus the 2x2 coupes have a shorter, smoother and more attractive/elegant roof line and there fore are more sought after. This particular car is a US model and has always been in Southern California. The car is a matching number car with its original engine. It was originally burgundy with black interior and was changed to white exterior. The white repaint was done over 10 years ago and shows minimal signs of wear with good shine. It is presentable thick and durable paint but the quality of the application was not done to the highest standards. The rubber seals and moldings are usable but mostly dry. The chrome has very minor pitting and is nice. The wire wheels appear original and are structurally sound but have some surface rust. The front end fits and lines up perfectly. The rear door fits well, the driver and passenger door close well but they appear to hang slightly. They will typically need some hinge/latch adjustment in order to line up perfectly. The interior except for a new headliner and a newer Blaupunkt CD/stereo is all original. It is in good shape for its age but shows common signs of ageing. The original leather seats are somewhat dry and typically have small hairline cracks. The carpet, door panels, dash, gages and the rear storage area are nice and presentable. Mechanically the car is extremely healthy and is a solid driver. The odometer turned over at 99.999 and shows 10.000 currently. The car has traveled a total of 110.000 original miles. The engines top end was redone at 80.000 miles. The engine idles nice and smooth and pulls very hard under acceleration. It sounds and performs the way a well taken care of E-type should. The 4 speed manual transmission shifts nicely and the brakes and suspension feel solid as well. The rear rubber transmission mounts are a little bridle and should be replaced. Only under hard acceleration from a stand still in 1st gear the mounts give in at times and create a clonking sound. This is an easy fix and should not be majorly concerning. Except for the heater blower all the gages and electrical work properly. The heater blower initially starts blowing but stops with a screeching sound. Based on the vents and switches I think this car may originally have come with A/C but I am not sure. If it did the A/C compressor is missing. The car is solid and all important components are rust free – no accidents. The only rust noticeable is some minor surface rust here and there. This car is not a show car but a presentable and reliable driver. If you are on a budget you can enjoy the car as is but if you are a perfectionist you would definitely want to do a cosmetical restoration. This car is original and complete with excellent structural integrity and is a perfect candidate for a nice and easy restoration. These cars are more and more difficult to find in a rust free and unmolested condition and are hard to come by for a reasonable price. Perfect original or restored examples sell for $40.000 - $50.000. “Barett Jacksons” auction house recently sold a e-type coupe for $69.000 and one for $86.000. Jaguar specialist “Dan Mooney” rates a presentable driver like this at $16000 - $22000. If you either want to enjoy the car as is or would like to fulfill a long time dream by restoring this beautiful car we have set the reserve realistically leaving plenty of room for improvements.
I always go over and above most other peoples abilities to describe a used vehicle starting from the write up to the pictures and the video but even then please bare in mind that this car almost 35 years old. There is always a small possibility for one to overlook a scratch here and a small detail there which within reason should not take away from the general impression and integrity of the car. If you are local come to see for your self how beautiful and special this car is and what an amazing driver it is or fly in and take the car home on a beautiful cross country trip.
