VIN 850328

This E-Type Series 1 Roadster was manufactured in January 1962, and is understood to be one of only 400 right-hand drive ‘Flat Floor’ examples produced.

A full and meticulous restoration was carried out in 2015 at a cost of around £175,000, with the car owing its prior owner more than £300,000 in total.

Equipment and features

As an early E-Type this model features the sought-after flat floor, larger rear drive shafts and wishbones, an aluminium centre console section, and an air-intake assembly box without grooves.

It is finished in the vibrant hue of Carmen Red with a black soft-top roof, over a black leather-trimmed interior, featuring textured aluminium trim on the dashboard and centre console, and punctuated by chrome trim accents.

It rides on the correct set of 15-inch polished wire wheels with two-eared knock-off hub nuts, shod with Avon tyres.

Original equipment includes a wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel, heating and ventilation controls, and variable speed electric windscreen wipers.

The car features some upgrades including a five-speed manual transmission, and the seller notes that a four-speed Moss gearbox will be supplied with the car. It is also understood that the engine was rebuilt to a ‘fast road’ specification, with slightly more power than standard.

It will be accompanied by the original maintenance handbook, a booklet of periodic maintenance vouchers, a statement of build and a production record trace certificate from Jaguar Heritage, the original tools and jack, a tonneau cover, a Classic Motor Cars service book, and invoices for the 2015 body-off restoration carried out by Classic Motor Cars.

Condition

There is no known bodywork damage.

The Carmen Red paintwork is reported to be in superb condition, with no notable marks or blemishes following the car’s recent extensive restoration.

Inside, the cabin is presented in equally superb order, with only slight use-related creasing on the driver’s seat and light wear on the bolster.

There are no known mechanical or electrical faults.

The car is now exempt from mandatory MOT test, and its last test was conducted on 22 February 2019 at 75,747 miles, resulting in a clean, first-time pass.

The seller notes that a fresh MOT test can be carried out if required.

Service history

This E-Type’s most recent maintenance was performed in May 2016 at 75,483 miles by Classic Motor Cars Limited, which consisted of an ‘A’ service.

A full, body-off restoration was carried out in 2015 by Classic Motor Cars Limited at a cost of around £175,000.

You can see why the restoration cost £175,000 when you see the car.
