Info gathered with permission from:
www.hendi.nl/xke/main.htm
875001 was the first production LHD roadster. it was also the first E-type to be produced by Jaguar production department (as opposed to the Prototype Department). It was built to US specifications, but apparently never left the UK It was used for "Pave" testing, and is believed to have been scrapped by the factory.

Hi Oliver,
Your engine does not necessarily relate to this car. 875001 is or better was supposed to belong to body number R1003 (R for roadsters and V for fixed heads), but the engine number is not stated.
However your engine is a fairly early one, a really really early one. I suspect it must belong to one of the exhibition cars maybe an early roadster. 885003 had originally R1004-9 in it. Engine for 885004 is not mentioned - potentially your engine belongs to this car?
Maybe you can contact Jaguar Heritage to find out and maybe there is even a way to get back the engine to the original car. At least I would pay a bit, if I were a possessor of an very early car.
Good luck!

Hi Stefan - thanks for the info, I have a heritage certificate confirming it belonged to 875001 the first roadster, they have told me the car was scrapped by Jaguar and was used for pave testing.. The components must have been spares hence ending up in my car??

Hi Oliver,
But what I read is that 860230 has listed R 3957-9 as original engine. Do you have a heritage certificate confirming that R1003-9 came originally with your car? Or was it replacing the original engine at one point of time?
However R1003-9 is really nice to have ;)
