Car to be at Russo and Steele Auction 1/10
    www.russoandsteele.com/collector_car/1962_jaguar_xke_ots__/42-6569.html

    Auction description:
    Consignment # 42-6569
    VIN: 875769
This is a very early 1962 Jaguar XK-E OTS. The car has had only 2 owners since new and is a low mileage California car. This beautiful and rare 'flat floor' XKE has had a complete nut and bolt restoration done by a very knowledgeable restorer of Jaguar cars. The restoration took over 1,000 man hours to complete and makes it one of the best and correct early 3.8 liter XKEs in the market today.

The car is a matching-numbers example. The complete drive line was rebuilt to factory new specs. This includes the engine, transmission, and independent rear end assembly. All original hardware has been used in the restoration and all plating is done correctly and in the right colors. This Jaguar XK-E still has all the original floors, sills and boot pan, all of which are very hard to find in a E-type. The complete brake system has been done including master cylinder and all new calipers, hard and rubber brake lines. Correct Chenny hose clamps have been used on the cooling system. The complete fuel system has been rebuilt or replaced.

The body was completely stripped to bare metal and metal finished. The car was then primered in a 2-stage epoxy, then painted in 2-stage base coat, sanded in-between coats before 4 layers of a very high quality clear coat were applied and sanded in between each coat as well. The complete body of the car was finally color sanded and polished. The interior was done correctly and all instruments have been done.

This is a very beautiful, early XK-E and done in the very stunning original color combination of Cream with Red interior. All in all, if you are looking for a early XK-E OTS, this is one of the best to be considered for a collector or a purist.

    Sellers description:
This E Type was built at the Jaguar's Browns Lane factory on the 12th of October 1961 and dispatched to the dealer in Beverley Hills, California on the 27th of the same month. It was finished in Cream, with a Red interior and Black soft top, the same colors it retains today.

    Chassis Number 875769
    Engine Number R2151-9
    Body Number R 1983
    Gearbox Number EB 1269 JS

These numbers are still retained by the car today. These early cars didn't have the well in the drivers side floor that the later cars did, and so are referred to as 'Flat Floor' cars and are very desirable. The condition of this car can only be described as stunning in every aspect, inside and out, cosmetically and well as mechanically. This car has been restored to true concours condition and would be a car of interest for someone who wants the best example available.

From the paint to the trim, everything has been restored or replaced, all seals, gaskets and wiring, a full mechanical restoration to the engine, gearbox and drivetrain and down to the details of the car all combine to make this not only a beautiful looking car, but also a superb driving car. The engine has great oil pressure and compression, pulls cleanly all the way through the rev range and the Moss gearbox shifts as smoothly as any Moss gearbox will.

Everything fits together well, and all the gaps and shut lines are spot on. The fact that there were no corners cut in the restoration of this car is very evident, and we have over 150 photographs to this end. I would urge any seriously interested parties to arrange an in person inspection of this car, as I think it is difficult to appreciate it fully even from the large a catalog of photos.

    1961 Jaguar E-Type Series I 3.8-Liter Roadster
To be auctioned on Friday, October 12, 2012
    Sold for $96,250

    Chassis no. 875769
The E-Type roadster being offered here was built in October 1961 and is a rare and early example of the marque. It is identifiable by subtle clues, such as the flat floor and a separate stamping for bonnet louvers. As such, this car is representative of a model that is deservedly sought-after. Authenticity of this early E-type, originally shipped to California, is reinforced by the accompanying Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate. Noted are the matching numbered components, including the 3.8-liter DOHC engine and Moss four-speed manual gearbox.

A comprehensive restoration by a noted specialist has included a rebuild of the engine and transmission, plus the braking and fuel systems. The body, stripped to bare metal and with excellent panel fit and gaps, has been refinished with two-stage epoxy and four layers of high quality clear coat. The color is an appealingly-correct Old English White. The interior is upholstered in red leather and the cloth top is black. With the clean and uncluttered lines of the early E-Types, this beautifully-finished and highly presentable car is one that epitomizes the E-Type mystique that persists even today. It should be of special interest to the collector who is impressed by its condition and authenticity and who fully appreciates the value of these scarce early production examples.
