Seller RoyFarrugia
An extensively restored example of the iconic classic sports car, and the result of the seller searching for two years to find excellent Series 1 3.8 Roadsters.
Its engine is a rebuilt 3.8-litre straight-six fed by triple SU carburettors, driving the rear wheels through a ‘Moss’ four-speed manual transmission.
Originally delivered to the USA, the HPI check shows three registered keepers since its arrival in the UK.
The major restoration elements were carried out from 2017 through to 2020 by Incarnation Ltd (later Motolocation Ltd), followed by further work at Classic & Sports Cars Essex in 2021.
The seller reports that the car is now presented in pristine condition following its exhaustive refurbishment.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
The car is now finished in the classic combination of Old English White over a red leather interior, along with a red soft top roof.
It rides on 15-inch chromed wire wheels, wrapped in Dunlop SP Sport tyres.
Features include aluminium dashboard and centre console inserts, manual winding windows, a passenger grab handle, and the classic toggle switches. There is also a wooden-rimmed steering wheel.
The seller states that the engine and manifold are upgraded, as well as having slightly larger than standard wheels and tyres.
It is accompanied by a comprehensive folder covering the restoration work carried out.
CONDITION
Specific notes from the seller include: there are no scuffs or chips in the paint finish; it remains immaculate following the restoration.
The Dunlop tyres are almost brand-new, having covered a maximum of 250 miles.
The seller is not aware of any mechanical or electrical faults.
The car is understood to be exempt from mandatory MOT testing on the basis of age.
SERVICE HISTORY
Minor ‘finishing’ works have been completed since the main restoration, including a new windscreen being fitted, conversion of the rev counter/speedo, additional re-chroming, and replacing the brake fluid reservoir.

Goodwood Festival of Speed,14 July 2023, Chichester, Goodwood
Lot 276
£105,000 - £125,000
1963 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8-Litre Roadster
Registration no. NWT 276A
Chassis no. 878946
Engine no. R9916-9
• Left-hand drive
• Extensive professional restoration 2017-2021 (£140,000 spent)
• Wider-than-standard wheels/tyres
• Stainless steel exhaust
• Restoration works documented
This left-hand drive Series 1 E-Type was purchased in 2016 by the previous owner from an auction in France (cost €115,000). The car was then brought to the UK and extensively restored between 2017 and 2021, the main restoration work being carried out by Incarnation Ltd (later Motolocation) of Essex, with further works by Classic & Sports Cars of Essex. The aforementioned owner then fell ill and the E-Type was purchased from Classic & Sports Cars by our vendor. While the car was with Classic & Sports Cars the windscreen was replaced, as it was scratched, and the speedometer and rev counter wired directly rather than through the dynamo/alternator. Some less-than-perfect areas were re-chromed.
The wider-than-standard 15" wheels are shod with Dunlop SP Sport tyres, which have covered a maximum of 250 miles, while the exhaust and manifold have been upgraded to stainless steel race specification. The vendor was told that the engine was upgraded during the restoration, as verified by accompanying documents in the file, which also contains a complete record of the restoration, including receipts totalling £140,000.
