I purchased the "$3,500.00 Roadster" from Robert Dukalski of Roseburg Oregon in March 1985. It was a complete running car though in need of a total restoration. Someone had painted the car "Resale Red" at some time unknown to me. It had never been dismantled for the paint job, as all other areas under the bonnet, subframe and boot were still original Opalescent Dark Blue. When time arrived for my choice of color, I chose to go for the Bright Red E-type Roadster!!!

I will try to upload some scanned photos of the restoration project. First one of the finished product.

John, a cracking car - a real beauty. Well done on the restoration - it looks immaculate. I have an identical looking one - although a 1966 car. Same colour, also LHD although I live in the UK as I imported it from California. Happy driving! Chris

Auction may be a scam, will try to verify with John Delay. Now said to be in Bend, Oregon.

Chris Birks and Mario, Thanks for your comments! Had I known that this was the LAST 3.8 LHD OTS I may have taken a bit more care with originality as to color ODB and other updated details that are still very reversible. Interestingly, some of the items I updated are EXACTLY as the very next car made at Coventry: S1 4.2 seats, 4.2 pedal box with brake servo and slave and 4 S2 brake calipers, -ground alternator with engine harness, SU fuel pump with mount in the right boot fender, full syncro 4 speed gearbox with flywheel (lightened to match the 3.8) and bellhousing. Gold paint on the air intake and oil filter canister because I liked it!!! While I am giving true confessions, for some unknown reason I ordered S2 chrome wire wheels from England. I also sold the factory hardtop to a friend for $200 because I hate the marks it leaves on the paint AND safe storage is a pain! As for the numbers matching engine, it has standard pistons and new cylinders, original distributor and other pieces. I had the 69K? miles on the odometer reset to zero when I had the speedometer recalibrated for 3.07 gears.
881886 had 7K miles on the meter when I sold it in 1988 to a man in California. He, being a Ferrari guy, recovered the seats, door panels & dash with SWR monogrammed black ands red Italian leather. It looks and feels good but needs a complete Suffolk & Turley interior kit ASAP IMHO. In 2004 he graciously allowed me to use my visitation rights and take the car out for a drive. It was as smooth and strong as ever! A few months later I purchased my 1966 OTS 1E12025 and began its restoration as recorded here on xkedata.
In 2010 he sold 881886 to a man in Bend Oregon with 8,400 miles on the meter (7K of which I had the joy of driving with my beautiful wife-photo above). That means that he only drove the car 1,400 miles in 23 years! The new owner listed it on e-bay as noted above. After I happened to see my old car on e-bay, I made contact with him. I am happy to say I think he wants to keep it and return it to original. I am hoping to get 881886 & 1E12025 to meet up for a road trip this summer. Maybe Jaguars on the Island in Victoria BC or the ABFM in Portland. Talk about enjoying the work of your hands!!!
Yes Paul, the last LHD OTS in Bend is the real thing, Congratulations Todd. Very best regards, John DeLay.

A: They haven't figured out a way to make a computer leak oil.
