Sold by Marreyt Classic Cars of Aalst in July 2021. Abbreviated seller's description below.

www.marreyt.com/en/stocklist/jaguar-e-type-s1

The story of this E Type is a story of hope. Initially sold new to the USA, this Jaguar arrived back in Europe the early 1980s in the hands of a German enthusiast. After a vigourous start dismantling this Jaguar the energy dried up and chassis 885771 was left scattered in pieces for over 30 years in a garage in Wegberg. In 2017 an Italian classic car restorer discovered this basket case and understanding the potential of this early E Type took on the challenge to restore this car rigorously respecting the original specifications. Over a period of 4 years the puzzle comes back together, each piece properly restored and assembled to rebuild this magnificent coupe, matching numbers and correct to the smallest details. A pristine presentation from a very skilled restoration.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
