Car to be at Coy's auction 6/06
www.coys.co.uk/auctions/lot.php

Auction description:
Fine Motor Cars & The Jaguar Legend Saturday 24th June 2006
Lot 237
1962 Jaguar E Type S1 3.8 Fixedhead Coupe
Registration no: XSV 127
Chassis no: 886348
Estimate: £40,000-50,000
According to its Jaguar Heritage Certificate chassis no. 886348 was completed on 29th June 1962 and dispatched to New York on the 10th July for delivery to its first owner, an R.W. Rutlidge, of Lakeland, Florida.

In 1989 the car was repatriated to England and underwent a comprehensive restoration, photographs of this are supplied with the car, along with over fifty pages of invoices totalling £9,000 in parts alone from suppliers such as Martin Robey, David Manners and Barry Hankinson. After completion in April 1990 the car passed to its first owner in the UK who kept it until 1996 when it was sold, via Henry Pearman’s Eagle Racing Ltd., to the last owner, a well known Swedish enthusiast who almost immediately commissioned renowned E-type experts R.S. Panels to carry out the body and mechanical improvements the car carries today. Briefly, this work included a bare metal repaint in Briggs Cunningham colours incorporating removal of the bumpers and bonnet beading, fitting of Perspex headlamp covers, large outside fuel filler etc. etc. Mechanical improvements included fitment of all synchro gearbox, larger front brake calipers, uprated servo, semi-race engine on triple Webers, lightweight exhaust system, Dunlop style wheels and many other performance features. Amongst these items Koni competition shocks, loaded power lock diff. and four point harnesses were fitted along with a large extinguisher whilst the spare wheel well was also modified to allow the spare to be on view. Total cost for these works was over £20,000. Finally, the car was delivered to Suffolk & Turley who carried out a complete retrim in Saville Grey at a cost of approaching £4,000. Over the ensuing 10 years the car has covered less than 8,000 km.

We urge any prospective buyer to look at the photo / history file that gives a photographic record of the restoration and all the bills in having this done. This car is the ultimate road / race / rally car. It is sensationally quick with equal surefootedness in the handling dept. Tired of the rattles and bangs of pseudo-lightweight specification cars, it was specifically designed by the last owner to be the ideal E Type to drive in rallies with his wife or in which to let her do the shopping.

1964 – Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Competition FHC

- Very competitive and well known car

- Eligible for major historic motorsport events

- Registered for the road

This Jaguar E-Type was initially a road specimen, transformed at the end of the 2000s for historical competitions in the workshops of Equipe Europe. Initially intended for regularity events, the preparation of the car will be optimized to comply with FIA regulations and therefore become eligible for the historic calendar events. Jean Brandenburg will follow exactly the same trajectory as his Jaguar. He will enter the 2012 and 2014 Tour Auto in regularity, then entrust the preparation to Equipe Europe in order to enter it later in competition. The steel doors and bonnet will be replaced by aluminium ones, a 6-point roll cage is installed, as well as a circuit breaker, competition fuel tank, homologated racing seats, and all other equipment authorised by the homologation form to obtain an FIA Historical Technical Passport. Having become accustomed to historic competitions, Jean Brandenburg then enters in 2016 in the Competition category of the Tour Auto and will finish 47th overall and 10th in the GTS12 class. Still followed by the Equipe Europe workshops, this E-Type will also take part in two rounds of the Sixties Endurance at Peter Auto in 2016. It will finish 36th overall in Spa and 31st out of 74 cars starting in the Dix Mille Tours du Castellet. Between these two rounds of the championship, Jean Brandenburg will take his car to 30th place in the very tough grid 4 at Le Mans Classic. But it is indeed in 2017 that this car will sign its best result with a second place in the general classification of the Tour Auto in Competition category, behind the Ford GT 40 of the British drivers Andrew Smith and James Cottingham. Over the years, this car has the advantage of having been driven cleanly and of having been followed by the Equipe Europe workshops throughout its career in historic competitions. In good working order, this E-Type 3.8 FIA coupé will nevertheless need a complete overhaul before going back on track and its Historic Technical Passport will need to be renewed. Offered at an attractive estimate, this well-known E-Type is waiting for its new owner to repeat its excellent performances in rallying or on the circuit.
