    Ebay item 7/29/11

    cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/71-XKE-CONVT-REBUILT-ENGINE-PWR-STEER-AIR-CONDITIONING-/ ...

Current bid $2,025 reserve not met, 3 bids9 days left in auction. Buy it now price $26,500. Destin, Florida

    Sellers description:

1971 XKE CONVERTIBLE REBUILT ENGINE AIR CONDITIONING & POWER STEERING

The 71 is the last of the 6 cylinder xkes it is the Only time Jaguar put the "leaping Jaguar" emblems on the side of the bonnet. Also, it is the only time there was chrome surrounding the opening of the bonnet. This car has Power steering and Air Conditionig from the factory. The engine has been rebuilt and the compression is an OUTSTANDING 170lbs on all cylinders! All numbers match. The car has had its electrical oil pressure guage replaced with an accurate mechanical oil pressure guage, which reads the oil pressure directly out of the block. The oil pressure is fantastic--40lbs at idle when at full operating temperature and 55-60lbs at 2500-3000 rpms. The car runs Very strong with excellent power. The valves are a little noisy now with less than 50 miles on the engine and will need adjusting after the car gets about 500 miles on it. It has had the clutch and pressure plate replaced. The car sat for a number of years after this when the owner passed away. My mechanic tells me that there is some surface rust on the pressure plate from sitting. This causes reverse to grind when putting it in slowly, however it doesn't grind when putting it in quickly. All other gears are fine and he said reverse should improve with some use. The power steering has a leak and I have bought new seals to fix this but they have not been installed. The factory air conditioning was taken off the car. I have the inside unit. The small vents will need to be replaced and these have been reproduced now and are available. The compressor is not present. The original would have been a York and these are available, however most people replace these with the more efficient and modern Sanden compressor. The car has a complete Stainless Steel Exhaust System. 4 New Tires. Brand New 6 Year Battery. The floors are solid and the trunk bottom is excellent. The bonnet hinge mounting points are excellent. There is no sign of ever having been in an accident. The car has no top on it now, but comes with a new white top not installed and a luggage rack in excellent condition. It has 4 brand new Series 1 knock off spinners for the wheels which look nicer than the original spinners which had no ears. It will need cosmetics, but can be used and enjoyed as is. A rebuilt engine is about $7,000. The stainless steel exhaust system is $1,000. Tires and battery are $500. This total of $8,500 already spent on the car, if subtracted from the buy it now price of $26,500 is $18,000. You would have a hard time finding a good xke convertible for any less than that.

I currently own this car. I purchased a Heritage Certificate but any additional history on this car would be much appreciated. I am in the process of doing a complete restoration and hope to be finished within two years.
