71,000 miles, on ebay 10/09, seller writes: 1974 Etype V12 same owner from 1974, 71000 original miles. $45000.00 just spent for repaint, new interior, new soft top, and mech. work. This XKE has all available options including factory hard top, auto trans, AC, trunk luggage rack. I am selling this car for my parents and please keep in mind that I have owned and restored many classic cars and will describe this car accurately as I do not want to mislead a buyer. The car is located in Winston-Salem, NC and is available for inspection with a deposit and appointment.
The car looks and drives well, I would call it a #3 driver. Unfortunately the money spent for restoration was not a great value. It is a good repaint. The car is quite drivable and needs little for local show and fun driving. This is not a concourse car, but is a good looking driver. The following is a list of items I know are not perfect. Front and rear bumpers need to be redone. guages have some cloudiness and should be refaced. fuel gage indicates 1/2 when full 1/4 when 1/2 full. small ding left rear quarter. Original wire wheels are fine, but need to be re chromed for show quality. AC fan runs, but does not blow cold, not sure if compressor is working. Although the paint work is good and the body is straight it has a bit of buffer swirl. I would wet sand and re-buff with 3m finesse-it. rear shocks are ready for replacement. A few other pieces need to be re-chromed or polished. For me to correct the items listed I estimate less than $10000.00. With these things done the car would be a strong #2. I am located in Ohio and just spent a couple of days in NC driving and evaluating the car. If an acceptable offer is made with a deposit I will complete the transaction in NC. partial swap considered. contact me via email if you provide a # I will call. tripil@aol.com This car is a great investment opportunity.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
