Car returns to ebay 3/3/20
www.ebay.com/itm/1966-Jaguar-E-Type-Convertible/202919220877
Current bid: $5,300 reserve not met 15 bids 9 days left in auction, seller proteng, previously Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, 26k miles.
Seller's description:
This E-Type is on consignment with me. The car is located in North Carolina and is not here in my warehouse in Sarasota. The seller will accommodate a buyer's schedule and a representative will be made available for accompanying a buyer's inspection. I am representing the seller in the transaction. Please read the following information to understand the history of the car and it's current condition:
A wealthy surgeon living on Albemarle Sound, North Carolina purchased this Jaguar brand new in 1966 for his daughter Sarah as a wedding gift.
Sarah drove the car for many years two and from the country club and marina. She kept the car at her home on Albemarle Sound until 2011 when she sold it to the current owner who lives a few houses down from Sarah still today.
The current owner is an avid car collector who told Sarah many years ago that if she ever sells her E-Type then he should be the first one notified. That is how the current owner came to acquire the car.
Prior to the current owner's acquisition it was restored in the mid 1990's under the guidance of Sarah's now late husband. As the current owner puts it "it wasn't a very good restoration". He bought it anyway. The car was originally British Racing Green and had been changed to red prior the the current owner purchasing it. He obviously kept it red.
Immediately after the current owner acquired the car it underwent a second restoration. New paint, new carpets, new door handles, new hydraulics, rebuilt carbs, new gas tanks, new convertible top, new convertible top boot, all the fluids were changed, new stainless exhaust, the list goes on and on of the improvements made by the new owner. All the work was performed by a shop that exclusively works on British cars.
The car was inspected for rust while the paintwork was being done. No rust was found, none had to be remediated. The car was ready to be put back on the road less than a year after the current owner acquired it. Since then it's only accumulated 200 miles on it all-awhile being stored in a temperature controlled facility along with the owner's other collectibles.
In it's current state the car is a strong 7 out of 10 according to the seller (I personally have not seen the car). It runs and drives great. Superb compression in each cylinder. Comes with the complete tool kit. The tires look great, but they are old, albeit the seller tells me there's no dry rot. During his ownership of the car he gave the Jaguar mechanic carte blanch on repairs and maintenance.
The odometer shows 26,566 miles, but the seller doesn't believe thats real miles. The speedometer and odometer work, the seller just doesn't think the car has only 26k original miles. He says, however, "it sure as heck doesn't have 126k miles".
Sadly. the seller is fighting cancer and is relinquishing his collection. Hence, this E-Type is for sale. The seller doesn't want the price posted at $110,000 or whatever...he wants it sold. The bare minimum he will accept is $89,000. That is not a price from which to begin negotiations, that's a cut-the-chase price so you, the reader, know exactly where it stands. Sharp buyers know that's a great price even with the current market conditions as of March 2nd, 2020.
