Sellers description (same sellers as above):
1967 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Roadster
s/n 1E12897, Engine no. 7E8749-9
Cream with Black Leather
This particular car is a solid and dry example that has been in California with the same owner for over 25 years. It is a matching numbers example that has covered very few miles in recent years. Less than 1,000 miles ago, a full engine rebuild was completed, and the carburetors were also rebuilt. A new heater core and top were also installed. The total cost was over $15,000, and there are records back to the late 1980’s indicating regular maintenance.
The car is in nice cosmetic condition, with a good quality repaint on solid body panels. The bonnet fit is particularly good one this example. The chrome is possibly original and is showing some haze and light pitting. The chrome wire wheels are in nice shape and wear Michelin tires. The glass and lights are nice throughout, and the car still
has Lucas headlamps, in addition to European front turn signal lenses.
The interior appears to be largely original, including much of the leather on the seats. The dashboard is very nice, and instruments are excellent. The carpets are in very good shape, and the steering wheel is quite nice as well. There is a full tonneau cover, in addition to a top boot.
The engine compartment and trunk are both solid throughout, and are unrestored in appearance. There are some areas of aging, but both speak with honesty to the car’s solidity and overall feeling of originality. The engine and head number both match the chassis number, and the overall feel of the car is that of a fundamentally unmolested and well looked after car. The car runs and drives very well.
This is a great opportunity to acquire a properly maintained and solid example of the most desirable year E-Type. It has been in California with a long term owner for many years, and has a certain honesty and patina that recalls the days when these cars were actually used. This car run drives very nicely, and would be an ideal example to drive and enjoy. Accompanying the car are the original tool roll with tools, knock off hammer, and jack.

This 1966 Jaguar XKE Series I roadster is believed to have remained with the same owner in California for nearly three decades before undergoing a refurbishment in the late 2000s that involved an engine rebuild and other mechanical work. Chassis 1E12897 was acquired by the current owners in 2011 and received an interior re-trim that same year as well as a top-end overhaul in 2020. Finished in cream with a black soft top over black leather upholstery, the car is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six equipped with triple SU carburetors that is linked to a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. It rides on 15″ wire-spoke wheels coupled with power-assisted disc brakes at all four corners and is further equipped with a louvered clamshell hood, enclosed headlights, and a stainless-steel exhaust system. Inside, a wood-rimmed steering wheel is accompanied by a push-button Becker radio as well as a heater. This XKE Series I roadster is now offered on dealer consignment at no reserve with a car cover, a tool kit, removed parts, vehicle literature, partial service records, and a California title.
Series I E-Types were equipped with covered headlights as well as taillights mounted above the chrome rear bumpers. This example is believed to have been refinished in Cream under previous ownership. It is accompanied by a black soft top, top boot, and zippered tonneau cover. Further details include a louvered clamshell hood, a driver-side mirror, triple windshield wipers, and wraparound chrome bumpers with tubular guards.
The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are mounted with 185-width Vredestein tires. The car rides on an independent suspension, while braking is handled by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors.
Refreshed circa 2011, the cabin features bucket seats that have been reupholstered in black leather along with a color-coordinated dash, center console, door panels, and replacement carpets. A Becker Europa AM/FM radio is installed in the center stack, and additional interior appointments include a heater, a sliding rearview mirror, and lap belts.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 41k miles, and the selling dealer states that true mileage is unknown.
The 4.2-liter inline-six was equipped from the factory with triple SU carburetors and rated at 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque when new. The engine and carburetors are believed to have been rebuilt in 2009 as part of the aforementioned refurbishment. A Cool Cat radiator fan was installed in 2017 along with upgraded engine mounts. Work under current ownership in 2020 is noted to have included the following:
Removing the cylinder head
Cleaning the piston tops
Replacing the timing chain guides
Replacing the carburetor diaphragms
Changing the head studs
Replacing the radiator
Performing a valve adjustment
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a full-synchromesh four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. A stainless-steel exhaust system was installed in 2017, while work in 2022 reportedly involved resurfacing the flywheel as well as replacing the clutch assembly, shaft, and throw-out bearing.
A car cover, a tool kit, removed parts, vehicle literature, and other accessories will accompany the car along with a collection of service records.
A composite image of various identification markings is shown above. Car number 1E12897 appears on the chassis plate, which is accompanied by a “J66” tag. The current California title lists the car as a 1967 model with the sequence J67E12897 as the VIN.
