This 1968 Jaguar XKE roadster was built on July 29, 1968, and is claimed to be the last left-hand-drive Series 1 roadster produced. Chassis 1E18367 is said to have remained with its original owner until 1984 before spending the next three decades with a friend of the seller, from whom it was acquired in 2014. The car subsequently underwent a repaint in Opalescent Maroon, an interior re-trim in Saddle leather, a rebuild of the 4.2-liter inline-six, installation of a Tremec five-speed manual transmission, and more as part of a multi-year refurbishment completed by Sport & Specialty of Durand, Illinois, from 2021 to 2024 at a cost of over $318k. Riding on 16″ Dayton wire-spoke wheels coupled with GAZ adjustable shocks at all four corners, the car features uncovered headlights and wears a black soft top. It is further equipped with triple SU carburetors as well as an electronic ignition and a stainless-steel exhaust system. This XKE Series 1.5 roadster is now offered at no reserve with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, refurbishment records, spare and removed parts, and a clean Colorado title in the seller’s name.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust lists this example, chassis number 1E18367, as the last left-hand-drive Series 1 roadster built.
The car left the factory finished in Willow Green before being acid dipped, straightened, fitted with replacement floors and rocker panels, and painted in its current Opalescent Maroon finish as part of the aforementioned multi-year refurbishment. The car wears a black soft top and is further equipped with a louvered clamshell hood, wraparound chrome bumpers, triple windshield wipers, and dual exhaust outlets.
The chrome-plated 16″ Dayton wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and mounted with 205/60 Michelin Defender tires. Refurbishment work under current ownership has included refreshing the four-wheel disc brakes as well as fitting GAZ coil-over shocks as part of a suspension refurbishment.
The cabin features bucket seats that have been reupholstered in Saddle leather along with a color-coordinated central tunnel and door panels. Black vinyl covers the dash, and further interior appointments includes a sliding rear-view mirror, a heater, and lap belts.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 65k miles, approximately 150 of which were added under current ownership.
The 4.2-liter inline-six breathes through retrofitted triple SU carburetors. The seller notes that the engine was rebuilt and fitted with an electronic ignition as well as an electric fuel pump under current ownership by Sport and Speciality of Durand, Illinois.
The Tremec five-speed manual transmission was installed and the driveshaft and rear axles were rebuilt under current ownership. The car is further equipped with a stainless-steel exhaust system.
The included Production Record Trace certificate shows the original colors and drivetrain numbers as well as build and dispatch dates. Records from the refurbishment totaling over $318k can be viewed in the gallery.
A collection of removed and spare parts, including the removed four-speed manual transmission, will accompany the car.
Photos taken at various stages of the refurbishment process are included.
Chassis number 1E18367 is listed as the VIN on the current Colorado title prepended by the prefix “J68.”
