Car is on Auction at Flight of Elegance; Farnborough International

www.historics.co.uk/auction/lot/lot-1967-jaguar-e-type-series-1-/

Description:

This Jaguar E-Type ‘Series 1½’ is presented in Signal Red with black leather interior and presents as a beautifully maintained and comprehensively restored example of one of Britain’s most iconic sportscars. This car has benefited from a documented professional restoration costing in excess of £30,000. Notably, it was originally supplied by Coombs’ Chief Engineer, Ken Bell, a fascinating and desirable provenance supported by invoices on file. From 1993 until 2021, the E-Type was cherished by a single keeper, a near 30 years-ownership contributing to its well-preserved condition and continuity of history. The car has had just five previous owners from new, with a clear and traceable ownership record. The accompanying history file is extensive, containing consistent service documentation and 35 MoT test certificates. These records commence in April 1981 at 63,967 miles and continue through to July 2025 at 1,136 miles. The odometer is understood to have gone ‘around the clock’ circa 2018, with the true mileage from new recorded as 101,400 miles.

Mechanically, the car has been maintained and improved by leading Jaguar specialists WinSpeed Motorsport Ltd and Ken Jenkins Jaguar. Works carried out include:

- Fitting of a new manifold and high-torque starter motor for enhanced reliability

- Full engine service and refresh

- Comprehensive fuel system overhaul, including new fuel pump, inline filter, and tank sender unit

- Cooling system improvements

- Installation of a new voltage regulator and starter solenoid

- Replacement front anti-roll bar bushes

- New brake calipers

- Upper wishbones, ball joints, and adjustable fulcrum shafts installed

- LED front light installation for improved visibility

The interior and exterior appointments have also received careful attention. A customised and professionally installed black mohair hood in the correct period style complements the car beautifully. The front seats have been refurbished with new diaphragms while retaining and detailing the original leather. New carpets and underlay enhance the cabin finish and period-correct seatbelts have been installed. A new radio and the correct period steering wheel complete the authentic driving environment. With its low ownership, substantial history file, significant recent expenditure and desirable provenance, this Jaguar E-Type ‘Series 1½’ represents a superb opportunity to acquire a highly usable and properly sorted example of this legendary model.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
