This 1965 Jaguar XKE Series I coupe was acquired by the seller’s father circa 1967 and was given to the seller in June 1978. The car is finished in Opalescent Maroon over Beige and is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six linked to a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Equipment includes enclosed headlights, 15″ wire-spoke wheels, Wilwood front brakes, an Ansa quad-outlet exhaust, Boge shocks, Pertronix electronic ignition, power-assisted disc brakes, and an aftermarket cassette radio. This XKE Series I coupe is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, the owner’s manual, service records, spare parts, a car cover, and a clean Michigan title in the seller’s name.

The car came finished from the factory in Opalescent Maroon and equipment includes enclosed headlights, a louvered clamshell hood, wraparound chrome bumpers, bright trim, dual side mirrors, triple windshield wipers, a side-hinged rear hatch, and quad Ansa exhaust outlets. The seller notes evidence of prior repairs below the left headlight, dents on the hood, and damage on the lower edge of the air inlet. There are prior mounting holes on the hood, and paint checking and other blemishes are visible.

The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are mounted with Yokohama Avid Ascend tires. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors and Wilwood front calipers and rotors. Boge shocks are fitted at all four corners. The seller notes that the steering feels heavy.

The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in beige leather along with color-coordinated door panels and carpets. An aftermarket cassette radio is fitted in the center console. The seller notes that the heater has not been used in many years and may be rusted.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 35k miles, approximately 300 of which were added under current ownership.

The 4.2-liter inline-six features triple SU carburetors, a spin-on oil filter, and Pertronix electronic ignition. Work in May 2025 involved replacing the header tank, fan belt and pulley, and cooling hoses.

Cylinder head stamping 7E4238-9 is shown above, and a corresponding number is listed on the Heritage Trust certificate. A photo of the matching engine block stamping is viewable in the gallery.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a full-synchromesh four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The seller notes that the fuel tank has been coated with epoxy.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate shows the original colors and drivetrain numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates.

Included in the sale is a tool kit, service manual, and spare and removed parts.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
