This 1965 Jaguar XKE Series I coupe was acquired by the current owner in 2017 and underwent a mechanical refresh between 2023 and 2025, with work including servicing the brake system and replacing the upper ball joints, engine and transmission mounts, clutch and hydraulic cylinders, water pump, valve cover gaskets, fuel lines, and ignition wires. Power is supplied by a replacement 4.2L inline-six linked to a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Finished in Opalescent Dark Green over Suede Green leather, the car is equipped with enclosed headlights, 15″ wire-spoke wheels, power-assisted disc brakes, triple windshield wipers, an AM/FM radio, and a heater. This XKE Series I coupe is now offered on dealer consignment with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, service records, and a clean New Jersey title.
The Series I E-Types were equipped with covered headlights and taillights mounted above the chrome rear bumpers. This example is finished in Opalescent Dark Green and was repainted around 2016. Additional equipment includes enclosed headlights, a louvered clamshell hood, wraparound chrome bumpers, bright trim, a driver-side mirror, triple windshield wipers, a side-hinged rear hatch, and dual exhaust outlets.
The 15×6″ Dayton wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are mounted with 205/65 Pirelli P6 Plus tires. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. Polyurethane suspension bushings have been installed, and work carried out between 2023 and 2025 involved rebuilding the calipers and replacing the front upper ball joints, rear brake pads, rear radius arm bushings, and brake lines.
The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in Suede Green leather along with color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Interior appointments include black vinyl dash trim, an AM/FM radio, and a heater.
The smaller-diameter wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. Auxiliary oil pressure, oil temperature, and coolant temperature gauges have been added in place of the glovebox door. The speedometer was rebuilt in 2015, and the five-digit odometer shows 25k miles, approximately 1k of which were added under current ownership.
The 4.2L inline-six was reportedly sourced from a Jaguar Mk X and installed some time ago, while the cylinder head retains stamping 7E5418-9, matching the number listed on the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate. The seller tells us that an Offenhauser engine was previously installed, and a larger radiator with an electric cooling fan and a Mallory ignition system have been added. Work during the mechanical refresh involved replacing the water pump, valve cover gaskets, fuel lines and filter, battery, ignition wires, and hoses.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a full-synchromesh four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The clutch, transmission mounts, clutch hydraulic cylinders, and rear subframe bushings were replaced during the refresh.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate shows the original colors and drivetrain numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates.
