This 1966 Jaguar XKE Series I coupe is finished in Opalescent Silver Blue over black leather and is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six linked to a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The car was repainted prior to a mechanical and interior refurbishment conducted between 2017 and 2018, which included rebuilding the engine, carburetors, gearbox, and differential. Equipment includes enclosed headlights, 15″ wire-spoke wheels, power-assisted disc brakes, a louvered clamshell hood, and a heater. It is now offered on behalf of the current owner with manufacturer’s literature, a tool roll, service records, and an Illinois title in the name of the owner’s trust.

The five-digit odometer shows 47k miles, approximately 345 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter inline-six features a gold-painted cylinder head valley and triple SU carburetors, and it was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque. The engine was removed and rebuilt between 2017 and 2018. Work included machining the block and cylinder head, turning and balancing the crankshaft, balancing the pistons, performing a three-angle valve job, and grinding the camshafts. The SU carburetors and oil pump were also rebuilt, and the radiator was flushed.

The cylinder head stamping corresponds to the engine block and listed on the chassis plate.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a full-synchromesh four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The gearbox was rebuilt in 2018, at which time the bearings, synchronizer rings, and lay shaft were replaced. The rear subframe was removed, suspension bushings were replaced, and the differential was resealed. The clutch assembly, throw-out bearing, and clutch slave cylinder were also replaced.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
