This 1966 Jaguar XKE Series I coupe was purchsed by the seller in 2000. It is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six linked to a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Finished in cream over black leather, the car is equipped with enclosed headlights, 15″ wire-spoke wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, triple windshield wipers, and a heater. This XKE Series I coupe is now offered with the owner’s manual, service records, a car cover, and a Colorado title in the seller’s name.

Series I E-Types were equipped with covered headlights and taillights mounted above the chrome rear bumpers. This example is finished in cream and features a louvered clamshell hood, wraparound chrome bumpers, bright trim, a driver-side mirror, triple windshield wipers, a side-hinged rear hatch, and dual exhaust outlets. Work in 2002 included repairing a rust hole in the driver’s side body panel and rust in the air box. The chrome molding was replaced in 2020. The seller notes stone chips in the nose.

The 15″ wire-spoke wheels are mounted with Kumho Solus KR21 tires. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The ball joints and steering rack mounts were replaced in 2008, and the steering column bushings were replaced in 2022. The brake fluid was changed in 2026, per the seller, who reports that the rear brakes were replaced the same year.

The cabin features bucket seats trimmed in black leather. The interior carpets and padding were replaced, and the center console was recovered in 2020. The heater core and hoses were replaced in 2008. The B.M.C.D. pushbutton radio does not work.

The wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 80k miles, approximately 5,000 of which were added under current ownership. The tachometer does not work.

The 4.2-liter inline-six features polished valve covers and triple SU carburetors, and it was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque. The starter was replaced in 2020, and the fuel pump was replaced in 2021. The oil was changed in 2026.

The engine stamping reads 7E7507-9, which matches the number on the chassis tag.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a full-synchromesh four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The clutch cylinders were replaced in 2008.

The Colorado title displays the VIN as J661E32486, which appends a “J66” prefix to the factory chassis number.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
