I bought this car Sept 06. It has a Ford 289 with C4 trans. Everything else is Jag. I would love to find out more about the cars history, can you help?

PS: It runs like a scalded cat!

Hello,

I am the owner of a 1967 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 RHD Fixed Head Coupe, Chassis No: 1E 21551 (Registration: RPA 421E), based in the UK.

During the course of researching my car's history, I have reason to believe that the original gearbox from my vehicle — Gearbox No: EJ 14390 — may be associated with the car registered on this record, Chassis No: 1E76610BW.

The XKEdata record for 1E76610BW notes that a Ford 289 V8 with C4 automatic transmission was fitted to the car, which would suggest the original Jaguar drivetrain was removed at some point. I believe EJ 14390 may be the gearbox that was originally in this car prior to that conversion, and could now be either stored with the vehicle or separately.

I understand that the previous registered owner of 1E76610BW, Rick Coyston of Forestville, California, sadly passed away in April 2023. I am therefore hoping to make respectful contact with whoever now holds the car or his estate, solely to enquire about the whereabouts of the original gearbox.

If anyone has knowledge of the current location of 1E76610BW, or knew Rick and can help me make contact with his family or estate, I would be enormously grateful to hear from you.

Recovering the original gearbox would restore my car to full matching-numbers specification, which would be a wonderful outcome after a great deal of research.

Many thanks in advance.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
