This 1970 Jaguar XKE Series II roadster left the factory in November 1969 finished in Signal Red over black leather and was delivered new through British Leyland in New York. Chassis 1R11228 subsequently underwent a color-change to Regency Red with Cinammon leather upholstery as well as an engine rebuild and additional mechanical work as part of a multi-year refurbishment completed from 2004 to 2020. The car is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six fitted with a 123ignition distributor and triple SU carburetors, while shifting is through a four-speed manual transmission linked with a limited-slip differential. It rides on 15″ knock-off wire wheels coupled with disc brakes at all four corners and is further equipped with a wood-rimmed steering wheel, a retrofitted air conditioning system, and a Bluetooth-capable stereo. The current owner purchased the car in 2021 and has since added approximately 5k miles. This XKE roadster is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, a collection of records, a car cover, and a clean Arizona title in the name of the seller’s family trust.
This example left the factory finished in Signal Red and was stripped, fitted with replacement floor pans, and repainted in Regency Red as part of the aforementioned refurbishment. A replacement windscreen and black soft top were also added in the course of the project. Further details include a louvered clamshell hood, a luggage rack, and dual exhaust outlets.
The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and mounted with 185-width Universal Sport red-line tires, while braking is handled by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The seller tells us that the wheels were installed in 2013 and the lower ball joints were replaced in 2021.
The cabin was re-trimmed utilizing a Cinnamon leather kit circa 2011. A color-coordinated carpet kit was also installed at that time, while a replacement padded dash and windscreen pillars were fitted in 2012. A retrofitted air conditioning system was later installed in 2013. A Bluetooth-capable audio receiver is connected with a Kenwood amplifier and speakers, and a USB charging port and remote battery disconnect have also been added.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline as well as an analog clock and gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. A replacement wiring harness was installed in 2010, according to the seller. The five-digit odometer shows 90k miles, approximately 5k of which were added under current ownership.
The 4.2-liter inline-six is linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The seller tells us that work performed as part of the engine rebuild involved the following:
Cleaning the engine block
Reboring the cylinders
Reconditioning the connecting rods
Machining the crankshaft
Resurfacing the flywheel
Decking the cylinder head
Replacing the cam bearings and valve guides
Performing a valve job
Rebuilding the triple SU carburetors
The engine and transmission are believed to have been reinstalled circa 2011. Subsequent work in 2021 included applying a Jet-Hot coating to the exhaust manifolds, fitting an aluminum radiator with a SPAL electric puller fan, and installing a Bluetooth-enabled programmable distributor from 123ignition.
The June 2021–dated Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists the original colors and component numbers along with manufacture on October 27, 1969, and dispatch to British Leyland in New York.
A collection of records, a car cover, and other accessories are included in the sale.
