Car offered at:
collectingcars.com/for-sale/1970-jaguar-e-type-series-1-4-2-fhc
Auction description:
1969 JAGUAR E-TYPE SERIES 2 4.2 FHC
96,834 miles
manual
RHD
Red
Tan
4.2L Inline-Six
VIN 1R20441
Blandford Forum, Dorset, United Kingdom
A presentable and well-documented example of Jaguar’s iconic sporting classic, which has been in single family ownership for the last 30 years, passing from father to son.
Under the bonnet sits a naturally aspirated 4.2-litre inline-six, delivering around 265bhp and 283lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission.
The odometer displays 96,834 miles.
An original UK-supplied ‘matching-numbers’ example, this Series 2 E-Type 4.2 Fixed-Head Coupe was manufactured in September 1969 and retains its original Regency Red paint colour over a grey leather interior.
The car was purchased by the seller’s father in October 1991 and was passed to the current owner in 2007, since which it is reported to have covered very few miles.
The car’s open headlight design – a distinguishing feature of Series 2 cars – has been reverted to a Series 1-style closed headlight design.
Equipment and features
This E-Type is finished in its original colour combination of Regency Red over a grey leather-trimmed cabin, accented by the original wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel.
It rides on a set of 15-inch chrome wire wheels with twin-eared knock-offs, which are all wearing matching Pirelli P400 tyres reported to have excellent tread remaining.
The cabin features the correct wood-rimmed steering wheel, Smiths instrumentation, a cigarette lighter, and the original period-correct Philips radio.
The car will be accompanied by a raft of invoices dating back to 1977, including photographic evidence of the work carried out to the car as well as historic tax discs and MOT test certificates, as well as a Jaguar-Daimler Heritage Trust certificate confirming the car’s original specification, chassis number, and engine number.
Condition
The seller is not aware of any bodywork damage.
The Regency Red paintwork is described by the seller as being in generally fair condition, and is reported to have been resprayed in the 1980s. As a result, the finish looks a little ‘tired’ and the seller notes that there are some micro blisters around the car, but there is no rust.
Inside, the cabin presents well, having been retrimmed in April 1993, and used sparingly since. The grey leather upholstery is in good order with only some light creasing, while the original dashboard and controls present a wonderful ‘patina’ of age and use.
The seller is not aware of any electrical or mechanical faults.
The most recent MOT test took place on 21 September 2017 at 94,861 miles, resulting in a clean pass. The car is now believed to be exempt from mandatory MOT testing on account of it being over 40 years old.
Service history
This E-Type’s latest service was carried out in 2017 at 94,861 miles by a Jaguar mechanic. The work comprised of an engine oil and filter change, and a brake inspection.
The car has been serviced twice in the past five years as it has been rarely used.
The seller also notes that the cylinder head, gearbox and rear axle have been fully rebuilt in the last 20 years, and this is documented by photographs which will accompany the vehicle.
Major noted maintenance – with receipts:
2007 – Rear axle / subframe rebuilt
Nov 1997 – Clutch rebuild
1993 – Replacement chrome wire wheels
Apr 1993 – Interior re-trim in by ex-factory trained trimmers
May 1993 – New stainless-steel exhaust system
Dec 1992 – Front suspension and steering rebuild
Aug 1992 – Cylinder head overhaul
