Car was sold at auction in '04:

Auction description:
Saturday 10th January 2004
Lot 302
1970 Jaguar E-Type Series II FHC
Registration no: WHY 1H
Chassis no: 1R20773
Estimate: £9,000-11,000
Hammer price 13,527

October 1964 saw the debut of Jaguar's 4.2 litre E-types; apart from the capacity increase from 3,781cc to 4,235cc and improved torque but the same power, it boasted a new all-synchromesh gearbox, better brake servo and seats, an alternator and leather-faced rather than aluminium dashboard.

With the Series 2 of October 1969, however, US emission and safety regulations had their way: headlights were open rather than closed, the radiator intake was enlarged, one-piece bumpers replaced the split items with larger sidelamps now beneath and, in US guise only, twin Stromberg carburettors reduced power to just 177bhp. Thankfully, European market cars retained their triple SU carburettor, 265bhp engines.

Today's example is described by the vendor as being in excellent condition throughout and with only 49,000 miles on the clock must represent excellent value for money. She sits on chrome wire wheels and is accompanied by an extensive file containing service records and bills for work done. The number plate WHY 1H will also remain with the vehicle.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
