This 1969 Jaguar XKE Series II coupe was sold new in Arizona before being acquired by a friend of the current owner in 1970. The friend later sold the car to them in 1978. Subsequent work over the owner’s 48 years with the car has included replacing the 4.2-liter inline-six, repainting the body, refreshing the interior, retrofitting a Medatronics JT5 five-speed manual transmission, and installing triple Weber 45 DCOE carburetors along with Isky camshafts. Finished in silver over red leather, the car rides on 15″ wire wheels coupled with disc brakes and Gaz dampers at all four corners. It is further equipped with a louvered clamshell hood and a limited-slip differential along with a wood-rimmed steering wheel and air conditioning. This XKE coupe is now offered on dealer consignment with initial sale documents, manufacturer’s literature, workshop manuals, partial service records, and a Connecticut title in the owner’s name.
The car is said to have undergone bodywork and been repainted sometime prior to 2010. The selling dealer tells us that various chrome exterior trim pieces were either replated or replaced at that time. A louvered clamshell hood, sealed-beam open headlights, wraparound chrome bumpers, and quad exhaust outlets are further details.
The 15″ wire wheels are secured by three-eared knock-offs and are mounted with 185-width Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The selling dealer notes that Gaz dampers were installed as part of a suspension refurbishment completed under current ownership.
The refreshed cabin features bucket seats upholstered in red leather accompanied by a color-coordinated center console, rear cargo area trim, door panels, lap belts, and carpets. The car is further equipped with a retrofitted air conditioning kit from Classic Auto Air as well as a Smiths heater and a Blaupunkt AM/FM cassette stereo.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline as well as a centrally mounted analog clock and gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 3,500 miles.
The selling dealer notes that the replacement 4.2-liter inline-six was rebuilt before being installed in the late 1990s. Additional updated fitted sometime after 2009 included triple Weber 45 DCOE carburetors with splined linkage shafts as well as Isky camshafts and a stainless-steel exhaust system.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a retrofitted Medatronics JT5 five-speed transmission that was installed circa 2009. The selling dealer notes that the limited-slip differential was rebuilt at the time of the transmission change.
Sales documentation shown above lists initial delivery to Precision Motors Inc. of Tucson Arizona, and a total price of $6,887.
