This 1970 Jaguar XKE Series II coupe was purchased new in May 1970 from Escondido Imports of Escondido, California, and was acquired by the seller in 2020. Finished in Cream over Cinnamon leather upholstery, the car is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Equipment includes dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, 15″ wire-spoke wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, an AM/FM radio, and air conditioning. This XKE is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, manufacturer’s literature, and a California title in the seller’s name.
The car was finished from the factory in Cream. Exterior details include sealed-beam open headlights, a louvered clamshell hood, a driver-side mirror, a side-hinged rear hatch, bright trim, dual polished exhaust outlets, and wraparound chrome bumpers.
Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels are mounted with 185VR15 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors.
The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in Cinnamon leather along with a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpeting. Interior appointments include a Philips AM/FM transistor radio, air conditioning, seatbelts, and a locking glovebox. The A/C does not blow cold.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline as well as an analog clock and gauges for battery voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 24k miles, approximately 200 of which were added under current ownership.
The 4.2-liter inline-six was factory equipped with dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and rated at 246 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque when new. The seller tells us that recent service has involved flushing the radiator and replacing the radiator fans, spark plugs, points and condenser, and the starter.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists the factory colors, identification numbers, and a build date of January 28, 1970, along with distribution via New York.
The vehicle’s chassis number is 1R27745, whereas the California title prepends that sequence with “J70”, citing J701R27745 as the VIN.
